Re: SAR Plugin

The issue of importing GPX with planned speed (export works).

Made a suggestion for a possible correction for this problem:

https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...50#post3158350

Only one line of code.

Hope this can be included in the release.

Re: SAR Plugin

Mike, those are great improvements! Thank you.
The route manager is very useful, gives time when you set the start time.
Also you can change the speed in route manager.

1. I wonder if the distance units should be set under preferences? This is more programming work. But setting .1 nm is kind of rough for Leg Space
Should it be metric and imperial? Ft, yards, nm, meter, etc? What is needed?

2. Fix needed: Under oil rig, number of legs "degrees"
3. Suggestion: Remove the "SAR" in each tab to save space.
4. Suggestion: Under decimal, minutes, seconds adjust format of "minutes" to be narrower, so that the entire box can be smaller.
5. Suggestion: Adjust other boxes in location entry to width needed to save space, considering the level of accuracy needed for data entry. I think you need at least 6 spaces for some of this.

6. Suggestion: Remove "Oil Rig Search" and use Quadrant Single?
7. Suggestion: Reduce title size more.
8. Suggestion: Use " No. of Legs"
9. Try to tighten up some of the bigger spaces between elements.

Re: SAR Plugin

I think these are good resources and links for the manual
David Burch Navigation Blog -Wheems and Plath Expanding Square
USCG Search and Rescue PDF
NZ Coast Guard Search Techniques PDF
SAR Search Patterns - the original basis for Salty Paws SAR_pi
USCG SAR Training PDF/slideshow a little tedious but has good instructions and diagrams

Re: SAR Plugin

I looked into leg spacing and use of nm should be ok I think. From the NZ Coast Guard Search Techniques below, page 182-183

"Uncorrected visual sweep" below.
  • PIW Person in Water search (typical) 1.7nm to .8nm with a 2-3' sea to less with less than 5nm visibility.
  • Powerboat 1.8-2.4m (15-25') 2.2nm to 1.1 nm with a 2-3' sea or 15k wind.
  • I think I agree that the use of NM will be fine.
I think you should just call it "Oil Rig" search. There is only one reference to this in all my google researches, and no other organizations seem to list this search, so I would just call it "Oil Rig" and save some real estate.

I know adjusting spacing and formatting is difficult with wxFormbuilder. If you can compress the Real Estate it would be good.
I will try your version 2.4 next

Re: SAR Plugin

I wonder, wouldn't most users want the waypoints included?
If so, that option could be removed, or it could be put into a Preferences Tab.
Here are some ideas for the interface, to have it use less real estate. (Sorry about the shakey pencil)

Actually we really don't need the big title "Parallel track search" because that is the TAB that is picked. Redundant info.

Re: SAR Plugin

New version.

Major changes to make the plugin comply with both IAMSAR and the USCG addendum to IAMSAR.

https://github.com/Rasbats/SAR_pi/releases/tag/v2.4

Both Windows and MacOSX installers available.

Please test if you can. I would like to get translations going soon.

Hi Mike,

Nice job.

Is the crowdin file update ?, all word in french are translated in crowdin and in this new version several words are still in english.

The title of the third thumb is to long, could be reduced.

Thanks for all

Re: SAR Plugin

Whar is third thumb? Is that the Oil Rig page?
I have been concentrating on the logic and gui. Intend looking at strings for translation shortly. There are a lot of strings used which do not need translation/should not be translated.

I will post here when CrowdIn has been updated.

Sorry Mike, my wording was wrong, I was speaking about the triangular area search tab.

Have a nice day

Re: SAR Plugin

Serge...

Still playing with a lot of the wording before submitting the POT file to CrowdIn (@Hakan) for translation. I have followed Rick's suggestion for reducing the titles of the 'thumbs' and I am not duplicating the title in the panel for each pattern.

The file names now come through to the route names in some form but I would like to remove port/starboard from the route names if possible. Maybe use "-1" for starboard and "-2" for port as part of the route name in a similar way to the 'Both units' parallel track search (PS-AB-A, PS-AB-B). (Maybe even change the '-A' to '-1' and '-B' to '-2') You can change the route name/colour in 'route manager' if you want this.

Good job the weather is turning bad and the sailing is limited here.

Re: SAR Plugin

PS File Naming:
Hi Mike,
As the Parallel Single is slightly different form the PS 2 craft, and the port starboard is only to "Reverse" the entire pattern to give a skipper all possible coverage directions, and likely a skipper will only generate one pattern for the direction he wants there may be no need to actually have a file name reflecting the first turn at all, after all we don't add the heading or other information in the file name, I think that's why I liked the "Route Name" option which can default and also used at the skippers discretion to contain any relevant info not used in the file name and is always visible inside OCPN's Route manager, the file name is not.
Cheers
