SAR Plugin

When using the SAR plugin a speed along with the other parameters is entered before calculating and storing the GPX file.

When it is opened in Route Manager and properties are checked the speed is not as entered in the SAR plugin. It seems that the speed recorded in the GPX file is not being read when the file is imported into Route Manager and the speed remains at whatever it was set to previously. If the speed is then changed in properties to match the speed entered by the SAR plugin the times all update correctly in properties. This is a bug which we have come across when using the SAR plugin in OpenCPN to set up search patterns. Users should be aware of this so it can be altered in Route Manager properties to use the correct speed value.

Re: SAR Plugin

Perhaps I am too demanding, but I am wondering why the plugin couldn't just create the recommended route in Opencpn rather than requiring import of GPX.

Also a route that accommodated Set and Drift would be a good enhancement.

Re: SAR Plugin

Having it produce a GPX file is useful as that file can be exported to other devices. In our case the Furuno radar/plotter system so we don't have to hand enter the search pattern coordinates. Compensation for currents would be useful but difficult to do as tidal stream varies as to tide times.

Re: SAR Plugin

So do nothing?
These are not exclusive.
Better integration would be:
Draw the route in Opencpn and an option to output GPX.
Provide a Set and Drift estimation Option.

Re: SAR Plugin

Hi,
I am volunter on a french SAR boat. When the MRCC give us a position, it is in DD°MM.MM. ' (degrees minute decimal). When I enter the position in the SAR plugin, it is convert in degrees decimal. Then I import the data in opencpn and open the GPX file. But in Opencpn the position is 981meter at the west and 461 meter in south of the position done by MRCC. It seems there is a problem during the conversion. If I convert the position without Sar plugin and write it in the plugin then the waypoint is correct in Opencpn. If I use the SAR plugin converter, there is a difference which is too importante when we want to begin a serach of MOB. I use Opencpn 4.2
Example:
Waypoint done by MRCC : 42°42.246N
003°04.692E

Waypoint calculated by SAR plug in : 42°42.003N
003°04.001E

Thanks
Pierre
