S63 plugin security issues with Chrome and Firefox

Hello,

As per the suggestion of the Open CPN site, I want to download and install the S63 plugin first, to check the interface, before buying the license and the charts. But my two primary browsers, Chrome and Firefox, both give big warnings about the download and the site, saying there's a potential for malware or unwanted software, etc. I was able to download the exe file from Firefox, after bypassing the warnings, but I don't want to run the exe file until I hear from someone at OpenCPN with their thoughts on what's happening. Are there any unwanted files in the plugin exe file?
Thanks.

Would you please tell us the download address you have tried?
It will be interesting for Hubert the administrator of o-charts.org

Re: S63 plugin security issues with Chrome and Firefox

Just go ahead - and if possible report a false positive to the browsers.
We have no way to get rid of this. Or have not found a way.
If somebody has an idea, please..

All this comes from some virus checkers that reported the "fingerprint" executable as a "generic trojan" - translated: heuristic analysis says it behaves like such. And as the virus checker companies are "copy-cats" they just propagate and copy warnings. And as we are not customers of them we have no way to report "false positives".

There is no real problem with the site nor with the downloads.

Hubert,
I think the fingerprint function is integrated now in S63_pi v1.3. So you might delete the standalone fingerprint executables from your website and the problem is solved. Or not?

Yes, once we have a back ported version of 1.3 for OCPN 4.0

But this is not guarantee that then the warnings from the virus watchers will cease. Possible yes....
