Rpi: Touchscreen "crashes" when screen orientation inverted

Hello.
Forgive me if this is not an OpenCPN issue, although I can only recreate it with OpenCPN. I have a 10.1" touch screen (cheap) which I mount upside down for better cabling runs. I therefore invert the screen orientation in the Rpi 5 screen preferences. In OpenCPN, if a pop up window appears (such as right click on a route and select delete, the warning "are you sure" dialog box appears or open general settings window) the HDMI screen goes garbled/blank/dark grey. Replugging the HDMI cable or power cycling the screen and it brings it back. The Pi is still accessible via SSH and appears not to be affected. This only happens when the HDMI signal is inverted (not it doesn't matter what the orientation of the screen is physically). It is most bizarre and I can't fathom what is causing it. I can see no odd output in xorg log or dmesg. I haven't been able to recreate this in any other software on the Pi, not that I have that much apart from OpenCPN anyway. I am baffled, any ideas would be appreciated.

Maybe if you rotate the screen at boot instead?

Re: Rpi: Touchscreen "crashes" when screen orientation inverted

I am trying to invert a 7 inch Touch screen. I don't crash but it does not invert. I tried the advice listed in the first suggestion for this thread and
display_rotate=2
lcd_rotate=2

had no effect at all. Changing the config.txt file seems like the ideal way for me but the context must be wrong unless more than one config.txt file is in the operating system and I am altering the wrong one. I found it in the bootfs folder as config.txt

Did you solve this yet? Please share.

Re: Rpi: Touchscreen "crashes" when screen orientation inverted

On My RPi4 I today tested this and it seems to work.
Rpi Apps->Preferences->Screen configuration.
See picture -> Change to Inverted.
I also had to use "Touchscreen" and select the one option available.

Re: Rpi: Touchscreen "crashes" when screen orientation inverted

It seems to me that using the dtoverlay or the preferences/screen configuration both work and probably do the same thing. For me the crashing is a mystery since it actually does it whatever the orientation and is most definitely triggered by windows appearing. It makes absolutely no sense.
