Routes to Garmin GPSMap 420

When sending a route from OpenCPN to Garmin 420 only the waypoints show up in the GPS, not the route. Is there a problem sending routes to Garmin?

More info, please....

0. What version of OpenCPN?
1. Windows/linux?
2. What is a GPSMap 420? Serial NMEA, or USB? Are you using a USB-Serial converter? What type?

3. Can you post the logfile?

4. Did you select the GRMN/GRMN(Host) mode in Toolbox->GPS?

Thanks
Dave

Thanks for the quick reply, here is some more info.

1. Windows XP SP2

2. Garmin GPSMap 420: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=8053
I use serial NMEA with Flexgear DB9ha-USB A ha adapter.

3. I'm not sure where to find the logfile, can you advise?

4. I did not select GRMN/GRMN(Host) mode in Toolbox->GPS. The software is set to NMEA 0183 in and out.

Many thanks for the help,

Andreas

StreamSta....

Garmin units cannot accept route uploads via NMEA0183. This is a "design feature" of all Garmin receivers, as far as I can tell.

Try the GRMN/GRMN mode for Route and Waypoint uploads, and let me know how this works.

You can find the location of the logfile in the Help->About button.

Thanks
Dave

Thomas...
This (Garmin) is a frequent question. Wiki entry?

I cannot choose Garmin/Garmin in Tools -> GPS
The only options are COM ports, Network GPSD and AIS Port (Shared).

Streamsta....

Aha! Which version of OpenCPN are you running?

The GRMN Host mode support is only available on the latest Beta version, and will be in the official release of Version 2.3 in a week or so.

Thanks, and sorry for the runaround.....

Installation of version 2.2.1211 went OK but I get the following error message when trying to run the beta: "Program could not start due to configuration errors".

What am I doing wrong?
