Request for enlightenment on OpenCPN as TCP server

A question from a relative newbie to OpenCPN. Apologies if I am missing the obvious. I have succeeded in retransmitting data via UDP from OpenCPN running on my Mac onto my local area network and can read the data on my iPad (using iNavX) and can pick it up on the same Mac in FileMaker 10 with the MBS plugin. Nice!

I would like to be able to send data using TCP. The manual says to set up the connection using an address of 0.0.0.0 to get OpenCPN to act as a TCP server. Here I get lost. To connect to this server, I need the address to enter into the client. What is it? It is certainly not 0.0.0.0

I am missing something here. Please can SKS enlighten me? Thanks.

[PS I understand that an OpenCPN TCP server only accepts one connection.]

Re: Request for enlightenment on OpenCPN as TCP server

OpenCPN actually ignores the address in that box when you ask it to act as a server and listens on all IPv4 interfaces of the host system.

Assuming you want to connect to your mac's en1 wifi interface, just check what address that is and plug that into the client application. ie:
type "ifconfig en1 inet" in a terminal window and it's the 4 octets in the output after "inet" on the 3rd line of output, or click the wifi symbol on the top bar, select "open network preferences", click "Advanced" then the "TCP/IP" tab and the address is next to "IPv4 Address:"
