Remove "Safe restart" prompt / OCPN crashing

Hello,

For some reason OCPN is always crashing when I try to close the window and then greets me with a "Safe Restart" prompt at the next start-up and I need to click "No" everytime.

Is there a way to remove this prompt forever and always launch OCPN in "Normal mode" ? I didn't find any settings in the opencpn.conf file or in the software..

Or any idea why it is always crashing .. ?
When I close the window (red cross), it crashes and no new settings is saved.
When I close the app (ctrl+q), new settings are saved then I need to close the window and cause it to crash otherwise it never closes.

I have the same issue with OCPN 5.10 (official) and OCPN 5.9.0 (build the github project on my PC) with Ubuntu 20.

Any help is appreciated !
Thanks

As you are able to build yourself, you are also able to investigate the crash using gdb

Code:
gdb opencpn
Type r and Enter

Make it crash

Type bt and Enter

Read the backtrace to see what actually made it crash and either fix it or make a proper bugreport on github or at least post the backtrace here.

Re: Remove "Safe restart" prompt / OCPN crashing

Hello,

OpenCPN doesn't really "crash" on its own as I'm the one clicking on "force closing" (otherwise the window never closes) so not sure there's something to see in the backtrace report ?

When I click on the red cross to close OpenCPN, it freezes, nothing happens for a few seconds then a prompt tells me "OpenCPN is not responding" and I have the choice between two buttons (wait or force closing).

Clicking on "wait" does nothing else beside asking me again to choose between those two buttons. Clicking on "Force closing" send a SIGKILL signal which closes OpenCPN but then I'm greeted with the "safe restart" prompt at the next start-up and it's annoying to have to click "No" everytime in order to launch OpenCPN (it's supposed to start automatically when the PC is started)

Re: Remove "Safe restart" prompt / OCPN crashing

Kupofty...
Some plugins exhibit this behavior.
Please, as a test, disable all plugins and test shutdown again.

Thanks
Dave

Re: Remove "Safe restart" prompt / OCPN crashing

bdbcat,

I should have noted that I already tried to close OpenCPN when it was started in "safe mode", where all plugins are disabled. The result was the same

Re: Remove "Safe restart" prompt / OCPN crashing

OpenCPN did not crash at all, you killed it, so the backtrace of course shows nothing and a completely different approach is needed to possibly get some useful information.

Before killing it (but after Ctrl+Q and waiting for a while), run
Code:
pstack $(pidof opencpn)
in the terminal and read or at least post the output.

Also reading the end of the logfile after you kill it using
Code:
tail ~/.opencpn/opencpn.log
might show something useful.

The pstack $(pidof opencpn) command outputs :

The tail ~/.opencpn/opencpn.log command outputs :
