Raspberry Pi 400: opencpn not working

I have OpenPlotter running on a RPI 3 which i am using on my boat. I am also using a new RPI 400 [ keyboard pi] as my 'development ' system at home and am trying to install OpenCPN onto it. [ i.e. I don't want to use Openplotter on my home computer] It installs, but opens to a black screen. I've done the usual updates, etc but no joy.
Thoughts?

Re: Raspberry Pi 400: opencpn not working

The file "opencpn.log" is created but has 0 bytes. To be clear: a window opens with OpenCPN 5.2.4 in title bar, window itself is black and the bottom bar has " SOG " and "COG" but nothing else.

When I try to close the window I get message "window opencpn5.2.4 does not seem to be responding. Do you want to force it to exit by sending the terminate signal?"

I click "end process", but nothing happens; I have to do this about 2-3 times before it terminates openCPN.

I have removed and then re-installed openCPN but get the same behaviour.

I am using RPI 400 with current Raspian.
Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

Re: Raspberry Pi 400: opencpn not working

Managed to get opencpn running on my Pi400 - it took a while, ran new os image from pi then download opencpn all onto a freshly formatted card - if it still doesn't work then you may want to reboot the eeprom, you can do this from https://www.raspberrypi.org/software/ also.

i still cannot get openplotter to run on my 400 - just gets stuck at the rainbow screen, havee tried many times - so have given up,,, thinking it may be something to do with the Noobs version on the openplotter download?

hope this helps

Re: Raspberry Pi 400: opencpn not working

Hi,

witch OS?
How did you installed OC?
Do you use repos? Witch one?

I got the message that you describe when shut down OC too but if I wait a few seconds and ignore the message then OC ends and all is fine (rpi 3b+ with latest buster and OC 5.2.4)

Regards

Andreas

Re: Raspberry Pi 400: opencpn not working

My understanding is the 400 is just a 4 w/a 4GB ram in a keyboard.

We just set up our 4 (4GB ram)to use w/a new halo radar and w/extensive desktop testing (not installed into the boat system yet) and it loads up fine. (plotter, updated ocpn to 5.2.4)

Plotter recommends noobs for the initial download. Maybe the card formatting is where the OPs problem is originating. We will be mounting the dome in the next few days and will see how everything works combined w/the rest of the boat systems running into the 4.
