Radeon RX570 - unable to enable opengl?

I have a Windows 7 system with a Radeon RX570, which supports OpenGL API 4.6.

I am unable to turn OpenGl on in OpenCPN. It's greyed out, and if I enable it in the .ini file, next launch crashes, and a subsequent launch has OpenGL disabled again.

Is this a problem with versions? Or a problem with the RX570? Or ....??

Re: Radeon RX570 - unable to enable opengl?

More likely than anything else it is a GPU driver problem. I suppose you run OpenCPN 5.10, so please post the file gl_caps.json from C:\ProgramData\opencpn that will tell us more.

In your logfile you will also see something like this:

Re: Radeon RX570 - unable to enable opengl?

You should be able to find a Windows 10 system for almost free, if not free. The company I work for is giving away Windows 10 computers to recyclers by the hundreds. Decent ones, core i& 32 GB ram, NVidia graphics.

If you are trying to run new software on a computer and OS 15 years old, it will have problems, no matter how hard the developers try to accommodate you. There isn't any good reason to do that.

I totally agree with Warren. Perhaps it is time for a new computer?

Re: Radeon RX570 - unable to enable opengl?

RX570 is Polaris from the year 2017, not too old and sure powerful enough for this application.
Windows 7 of course is past dead and should be replaced with some supported OS, but if it was not connected to the Internet I would probably still give it a try with the latest drivers from https://www.amd.com/en/support/downl...on-rx-570.html before replacing it with Linux and living happily ever after...
