No we lack the software in the plugin to update the radar firmware. Try to borrow a MFD to do the update.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

Hello all, I am trying to setup a configuration to connect a Garmin 18HD+ radar with a Windows PC with Windows 10 and some help to verify I am doing the right thing having some doubts even if I have read all the thread.
I have connected the radar ethernet cable to the Amphenol connector (on the connector with screws) and a straight ethernet cable from the Amphenol to the pc ethernet port. Can you confirm where the switch wires have to be soldered, please? Because the only picture I found is on the Open CPN manual and it is to small to understand where the soldering should be done.

Thank you in advance for your availability and help, much appreciated.

pacmanmt..
I don't have a Garmin scanner but can this manual describe it clear enough?
Just be sure to use a shielded, or similar, cable to the scanner so the Ampheno's chassis get connection to the scanner's chassis.

Yes, I have read that manual but the picture of the connector with the switch, is too small to see where the wire should be soldered.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

Yes, I have read that manual but the picture of the connector with the switch, is too small to see where the red wire should be soldered. It seems on the lower row, but that, from the Amphenol datasheet, is pin number 4, the number 5 is on the upper row. That's my doubt.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

The descriptions say's Pin 5 so you have to solder on your Amphenol at a point connecting to that pin on the radar RJ45 connector. Search for RJ45 pinout if in doubt of it's location.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

I already checked the pinout and the Amphenol datasheet reports numbers that should correspond the RJ45 pins. The point is that it seems the radar is not getting out of the standby.

Yes, I am actually using directly the ground from the power source for the radar for the enabling switch. When I will be able to get it working this way, I will also try to use the ground on the Amphenol connector.
I opted since the beginning to eliminate a possible source for issues.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

Issue solved!
The problem was the Windows Firewall blocking the traffic received from the radar.
Once temporarily disabled the firewall, the radar came to life.

I would like to underline that the IP address that worked is 172.16.2.1 with a netmask of 255.255.240.0.

Furthermore the Amphenol connector picture with the switch is wrong.
The one into the manual shows a soldered wire on pin 4, it should be soldered on pin 5 (the Amphenol connector datasheet shows where it is).

I hope this can be of help for the community.

When the PC is off, the radar works with the MFD and is stable.
When the MFD is off and the PC is running OpenCPN the radar plugin is also working great and is stable.

But when both the MFD and the PC are active, the system becomes unstable and both displays lose the radar connection after a few seconds or minutes.

The only recovery solution, I found is to power off and on the radar and the MFD.

I tried to change the network cables but without success.
Did you experience this issue?
Are you aware of any conflicting situation and how to avoid it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Same symptoms, probably same issue here.
Halo 20+, 2 navstations, rpi5+i86 Ubuntu, garmin gms 10 switch.
Guessing the asic is not to happy with the multicasts, and the switch is getting overloaded.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

Hi,

I’m shopping for radars that are compatible with openCPN on Raspberry Pi.

Does anyone know if Navico RDR1042 will work?

Thanks a lot!
