Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
Franziska..
This about the PC I think. If a wired network is active it's favored.
One solution is of course to use a router. Connect the PC and radar to each a switch port and use the router's wifi for broadcast.
Or, maybe try to activate a "hot spotI/Internet share" on the PC for wifi broadcast?

Thanks Hakan. Just tried to use the PC as hotspot for our NMEA display. Unfortunately the data stops showing on the display once the radar spins up. Bummer, that would have been the simplest solution.
We do have a router. You suggest plugging the radar into one if its ethernet ports and the PC into another of its ethernet ports, do you?

Yes, that use to work. And you can let the router act DHCP to assign IP addresses.

I'll try that tommorow.
Just had the router separated from all the other electronic items to avoid interference.

Franziska..
Maybe my suggestion need to be revised.
I was onboard testing other things and realized I've a similar setup to yours without problem.
The radar scanner is connected to the wired IP-port on the PC.
The wifi network is connected to a router.
Both does work simultaneously on my Win10. Both are using DHCP. So my network card can handle this.
Could there be some setting on you network card controlling this behavior?

Hi Hakan,
thank you. I did not configure a connection for the Radar, just plugged it into the network port and it works without further connection definition in OpenCPN.
Would it help to define a specific connection for the radar within OpenCPN? What parameters should I use (specifically, I'm not a real network buff).
Perhaps it works then?

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
No connection is to be configured in OpenCPN, all the communication with the radar is only done by the plugin itself.

Thanks. And yes, that works. Plug it in and the radar works fine.
How can I overcome my problem of the NMEA transmission "dying" when I'm switching the radar on then?

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
This is not about OpenCPN. As said it's about your network priority settings on the PC.
I applicable for your PC one search example here.
Good luck

Thanks. I understand that, I was just not sure how I can approach a fix. Thanks for the helpful link. It might help me and others with a similar issue.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
Hi,
I have just installed a Navico Halo 20+ and a B&G Vulcan 9' MFD.
I also have Windows PC running OpenCPN. The 3 hosts are connected via a GS105E Netgear Switch.
When the PC is off, the radar works with the MFD and is stable.
When the MFD is off and the PC is running OpenCPN the radar plugin is also working great and is stable.
But when both the MFD and the PC are active, the system becomes unstable and both displays lose the radar connection after a few seconds or minutes.
The only recovery solution, I found is to power off and on the radar and the MFD.
I tried to change the network cables but without success.
Did you experience this issue?
Are you aware of any conflicting situation and how to avoid it?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Fabrice,
I tried to reproduce your issue with a Windows computer, a Simrad NSX MFD and a Halo 20+ radar. But the issue does not occur, the system is running fine with both display systems.
Can you make a opencpn.log file while the issue occurs? Before making this log set VerboseLog=13 in the opencpn.ini file, this will log receive and transmit events. Set VerboseLog=0 later again, to prevent too much logging.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
Is there any support for adding furano radar overlays to openCPN at this point?

Big_Time...
Sorry no.
No developer has had access to a Furuno radar scanner.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
Hi Douwe,
While testing and producing the logs I changed the switch and found that the switch was the problem. Now the connection is stable even with the Vulcan and 2 PCs running opencpn at the same time
Here are photos of the switch model that produce the instability.
It is the manageable version of the switch you advised in your manual pages.
I ordered a simple non non-manageable GS105 model.
you can download the logs generated with the GS105E via the following link:
http://www.grosfichiers.com/ptiEVWXysbd
I will now be able to experience the use of the plug-in.
Thanks for your help.
