Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
re: "Should I be looking somewhere else?"
In OCPN Tool Bar: "About OpenCPN" (The question mark (?)) will tell you the location. When OCPN is closed open with a text tool like Notepad. (Not a word processor like MS Word!)

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
Hi-
I’ve been running this plug-in for a year now with garmin xhd. Occasionally, when I launch opencpn, the radar control windows don’t appear. I’ve tried restarting opencpn and reinstalling the plugin. What’s the trick?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike..
And I suppose you've tried to either click the toolbar's radar icon or Canvas mouse right click menu "Control Garmin XHD"?

Thanks!, that worked. I kept hitting the radar icon in the tool tray, didn't think to right-click. -Mike

Does the plug-in work on the raspberry pi (4)? I have OpenCPN v5.6 installed and radar plugin is not in the catalog. I tried beta catalog too. Hmmmm

I switched from the package to Flatpak and the plug-in is listed. Just documenting this in case someone else searches for the similar.
BTW, I am using OpenPlotter, so I used the OpenCPN Installer app to remove the "Debian/Ubuntu Backports" and then installed the Flatpak version using the OpenCPN Installer app

As we have seen mentioned earlier in this thread, standby mode is most definitely not the same, where grounding pin 5 on the network cable does not wake the unit.
We are researching this now and hope to come up with an alternative way to wake the unit. However, are there any other known issues related to the Fantom radars once the unit is awake and connected?

@LoopZilla, I have a brand new Garmin Fantom. Out of the box, no network cable, I apply 12V and the status LED on the dome flashes green/red for a few milliseconds and then is forever off. No LED when I plug in the ethernet. No LED when I put pin 5 to ground. Nothing. No mechanical sounds either.
What does your LED show when it has only 12V power and no network cable connected?
Thanks,
Dave

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
I have a pi4 with halo 20+ setup on the Ethernet port. Works great. I also have a Mikrotik Groove WiFi extender/router. What I’m wondering is if I can use an Ethernet switch with both the Halo 20+ radar and mikrotik WiFi router plugged into it without any issues or if I need some advanced switch with segmenting or something

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
As long you don't try to transfer radar trafic through the wifi but only via the (wired) switch it will work.
Now other wifi connected PC will be able to see parts of the radar picture as well but since the wifi protocol is limited it can/will be disturbed.

I do use the pi WiFi for an access point with the Mikrotik or an iPhone as a internet source sometimes. Hope that’s not a problem either.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
Hello everyone from Spain, a pleasure to be able to participate and contribute to this great forum of sailors...
the fact is that I have come here looking for a way to connect a Raymarine Rd424hd radar antenna to my raspberry pi 4 or my pc with win10... the fact is that I can't do it, could someone please help me? If it is necessary to do some type of tests to be able to contribute to the radar_pi plugin, I offer myself to do all the necessary tests.
a greeting

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
I noticed that a there have been a few requests for Furuno radar support. I would also like to see that development and I'd be very willing to help accomplish that.
I do have IT skills, can provide Wireshark traces, can set up a development Environment etc.
I have previously used the opencpn plugin with a Raymarine dome and was able to confirm that the Garmin 18 (not HD) system works well with the current plug-in.
My garmin and Furuno radars will co-exist on this boat and having OpenCPN access to both would be great.
TO the Devs.... how can I help or go about working on this project with you?

There are no plans, so the answer is: never.
