Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
Got a small question... Why does it say Raymarine E120 under radar selection?
There is no such thing as a Raymarine E120 radar... E120 is an MFD.
Raymarine has these Digital/Digital HD radome radars, there are: RD418 (E92129), RD418D (E92130), RD418HD (E92142), RD424 (E52080), RD424D (E92132), RD424HD (E92143).
CHIRP radars:
Wired or Wireless: Quantum Q24C (E70210), Quantum Q24D (Doppler)(E70498).
Wireless: Quantum Q24W (E70344).
There are some open array radars as well as the new Cyclone and Cyclone PRO.
I am pretty sure that all of these use the same protocol.

We do not have so much space in the radar selection list, therefore we use E120 instead of E120 connected radars. In these cases we do not connect directly to the analog radar, but to the MFD that connects the radar. A list of supported radars is found in the manual. Possibly more radars than listed will function, we can not test all. We recently added support of Quantum (2) radars, see https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...d.php?t=258745

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
Hello. Noob here so apologies in advance for dumb questions.
Does anyone have a Furuno DSRSD radome successfully working through a windows 10 laptop?
If so, what problems might I expect?
Thanks

The plug-in doesn’t support Furuno radars (yet). Radar support is driven by owners with IT skills.

Ok cool. Thanks for the reply. Sadly my skills barely reach plug n play!

CatNewBee..
No radar plugin won't work on a Android not less since it needs a wired IP connection for a proper function with supported types of radar scanners.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
Hey, thanks to the OpenCPN teams support our radar is finally up and running.
Its a 4G B&G.
Great.
Looking at the menus and eager to learn to use I went on the helpful pages of the Plug-in.
Still I was wondering if there is somewhere a full explanation of all features in the menues available.
To my surprise I did not find that on the B&G website either. Just a marketing quick start guide, but no in depth reference manual.
Maybe I'd need a chart plotter manual for this, even though we use none and OpenCPN instead?
Can you recommend some info sources on how to learn how to use the B&G 4G best?
I'm very much for self learning and learning by doing.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
For a general understanding of basic settings like range, clutter and trails you may need a marine radar training course.
But reading plotter manuals can for sure give useful pictures as well.
First hints:
Set what's available to "Auto".
Set clutters to "0" or "low" when not needed.
Use the radar all time during day conditions to study what you can see and not see. Also how different targets shows up when you change settings. When the dark and fog appears it's to late to learn.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
Thanks Hakan, I'll dive into it.
Downloaded the Zeus 2 plotter manual and it's radar section privides a good start.
Is the Plug-in adding some features from the newer Zeus models to the B&G 4G?
The idea to use it daytime in good visibility is equally good.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
It's a Navico radar so any manual for a 4G labeled Simrad, Lowrance or B&G are the same.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
Thanks Hakan.
Here is a little intro which might be a good starter to other radar beginners too. It's written for a Furuno, but I feel it explains the basic functions of most units quite well:

Franziska..
Yes, agree it's a good introduction to radar fundamentals and basic concepts.
May I adjust the link. (Your details gave error)
Thanks

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
I’m hoping anybody using a Navionics based radar (Halo…) and using the radar plugin might have a solution for this. Apparently the only way to upgrade Navionics radar is with their MFD and a SD card. Of course we use opencpn and don’t need a MFD. Is there an alternative way to do a firmware grade on Navionics radar? Maybe we could make something that works with the plug-in who knows. I posted another string, but thought somebody here might have found a solution. Done IT for years and never needed an MFD to do a firmware upgrade on hardware.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
akopac..
What I know there's no other method to updated the firmware.
Navico's method is to use a dedicated MFD and no "stand alone" update program is offered.
No one has implemented such a method to our plugin. That would probably include proprietary knowledge about the radar program.
