Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

While I was typing my previous message, Ubuntu was busy doing one of his daily updates. And surprise, the new version of the plugin was already there! Now it let me choose the 3G antenna without crashing. Great, your are great guys, really. Many many thanks again for your help, and for the wonderful job you have done so far and are still doing.

A radar overlay doesn't cover what's else on the screen. The level of transparency can also be adjusted.

I'd have checked for a Navico type, 3G, 4G or Halo. Often labeled as Simrad, Lowrance or B&G.

How to connect: (Thanks to Hubert)

Does anyone know if the halo 20+ work with this plugin?
Thanks!

NortehnMac..
The same question has been raised on this thread before. The answers was like; "Most probably yes but please report back."
What I remember is there not any feedback so far.
But the presumption remains: What we know Halo 20 works fine so the "+" sign is probably just more of some real or cosmetic attribute.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Roger that.

I guess I missed the part where someone asked that one.

Wonder if it would be safer to just get the straight halo 20

I was thinking B&G, any benifit from any of the different brands?

I've no real input but don't think it's any difference.

All are Navico make. What kind of label on the shell is not important.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

On request of one of the authors, I repeat my question here: trying to connect my new Garmin 18 HD+ to OpenCPN, with help of the recent radar-pi. The question is, if the network interface of the old HD is the same as for the new HD+

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

Can someone explain please how “ground” should be read, in the connector between pin-5 and the ground? Is this the shield of the network cable, or (steel boat) the hull of the boat?

Hi NorthernMac,

The HALO series is the "best" radar supported by this plugin. I believe the 20 won't do Doppler (VelocityTrack) whereas the 20+ will. Either will work, you may see that you are able to select a radar range that your radar doesn't support but then the radar will refuse to go beyond it's real radar range.

In about a month or so we should have this small niggle fixed when I have a chance to debug the plugin against a live 20+.

As Hakan says the brand difference is just the sticker they put on the radome, get the one you fancy most or can get at the best price.

Shield of the network cable.

I recommend not connecting the shield of your networking infra and NMEA 2000 infra anywhere to your boat's hull. Ground connections and certainly multiple connection points will only induce noise.

Ok, using the shield of the network cable makes sense. Counting the (8) wires, there is the obvious question where to start. In my opinion, the blue/white wire is the “pin-5” wire, where brown is pin-8. Agree?

Thanks for the info!

Currently I have a furuno RSB-0060, form factor would the Halo 20+ be close to this?

Also how do these guys do for weather? Id like to use to to keep a eye out for a line of CBs at night.
