Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

@wefleenor, Håkan has given an excellent answer, but to re-emphasise:

- Garmin Fantom or other modern Garmin radars are not supported.
- No Raymarine or Furuno radar support yet.

- The only radar with Doppler that is supported is Simrad/B&G/Lowrance HALO24/4/6/8.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

@Hakan and @SamH

Just wanted to say thanks for the time and effort in helping, in the end I was not able to get a connection, could it have been a cable issue, I tried three ethernet cables including the manufacturers shipped cable?

Anyway I have decided to ditch Garmin, their support was not all that helpful and I am going with a B&G 3G which sounds like has the most use on here as well. Thanks guys.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

Thanks for this plugin and all who worked on this it work very well and easy.

Question I put my ppi window on a separate screen but can't get it to full screen had to drag the borders to fill the screen can one add a expand button on the menu bar ?and then when I open the ppi menu it open on the OpenCpn screen not on the ppi screen can it be moved to the ppi or would it interfere with the way other users use this plugin?

One other thing I noticed is that I use nautical miles but in the bottom left the measurements are in kilometers.Click image for larger version

Ivanm..
I think a two screen solution is not at all specially prepared. A full screen expand button for the PPI window can easily cover everything on a one screen set up and may create a very confused and possible danger situation. If you've two canvas in O the docked PPI is though covering one of them completely. But it will not help you.

The unit issue I can't recall. You don't happen to have the range unit settings to Km in Radar preferences?

I think this is a general problem with Opencpn, in that it is not really suited for use in a full-screen plotter like interface. It is at heart a computer desktop application.

Does anyone know if there is work going on in this direction?

Sorry for the thread-drift, but even if this is not a radar topic, I think that the radar plugin is one of the things most affected by this design. While I need radar display and operations with a simplified ui on my cockpit display, I don't need complex weather routing etc at the helm.

toolbar..
If you're asking for OCPN to take control of two or more screens for different OS, Win/MacOS/Linux, I don't think anyone tried to make this contribution to the code. But as usual it's free for anyone to try.

If you need one PC to show different OCPN views on two screens you may try the opportunity to run O in two instances, one on each screen. For Win you've to use the portable mode for one of them and send all nav-data from the main instance to the portable using network UDP "broadcast". That's how I viewed one short and one long range before version 5.0 and dual Canvas mode.

Full screen mode can always be used if you like. (F11 or right click menu "Toggle full Screen".

Thanks for reply I thought there had to be a logical explanation why there was no fullscreen option.

As for the range in kilometers I have selected Nm in prefrences

Ivanm..
Yes, you're right. Sorry for my quick answer before.
Easy fix. Will be corrected in master code shortly.

Thanks for the catch and info.

OK what now?

This may be good news for me.

I currently am using coastal explorer but Open Captain has been recommended because of I want to be able to interface radar with my nav SW.

Problem is, I can not find anyone who supports OC! So if I buy a radar and interface it, where do I go for support? I doubt I have the expertise to just plug and play.

My email is stephem.schwartz@gmail.com if you prefer.

SeattleJew...
First you don't have to spread the same message in different threads. Most here reads them all.
For general radar support start from scratch in this and other threads. And again RTFM = Read The Fine Manual!
For specific issues this forum is a good place.

TyGuyBye, this may be a dumb question, but did you ground out pin 5 on the Ethernet cable? It sounds like your unit is in some sort of standby mode. Looking at the GRadarDoc.pdf it appears you must ground that pin if you don't have a Garmin head unit.

I would like to use a "headless" Garmin xHD with OpenCPN 5. Therefore I'm very interested in your attempt to do the same.

Would this plugin work with the Garmin HD+ radars? I see HD and xHD, but not HD+

As far as I can see the HD+ is the little brother to xHD, so it might very well work, but we see that the manufacturers seem eager to put in little incompatibilities between models. There are reports that Fantom certainly doesn't work if I remember correctly.

Yep, you know exactly why I asked the question.
