Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
Ivanm..
Very good! Thanks for the report.
For general info a new release 5.0.4-beta1 is present here: https://github.com/opencpn-radar-pi/radar_pi/releases
Please expand "Assets" for download links. Sorry no Linux PPA yet.
I'll ask Douwe for a check of the possible typo.
Thanks

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
I have just cleared my boat PC and loaded a clean install of OCPN 5.0 together with the latest RadarPlugin.
I have a Lowrance 3G Radar.
When type of scanner "Navico 3G" is selected the radar fails to display. Selecting "BR24" works.
Is there a particular 3G version that Navico 3G relates to?

First: All different "brands" or labels on the scanner are the same Navico make.
Second: The first Navico broadband scanners was called BR24. When the 4G arrived they started to name the BR24 3G instead but still the same firmware. After Oct 2014 a new firmware was used for the 3G type and the program use more, but not all, of 4G functionality and features.
So for radar_pi all "3G" having a firmware before Oct 2014 act as a BR24. And apparently you can confirm this after your clever BR24 test?

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
This thread seems to be mostly concerned with the problems. Let's look at the positive things for a while:
I am looking to set up a completely new system on a boat, so I am free to choose the components. It appears that in the latest generation Navico/Raymarine/Garmin have reached a similar level of specs. Are there any well known and supported (i.e. because the plugin maintainer happens to use model X) makes/models?
And generally speaking: does anyone here use the opencpn radar plugin as their main radar controller without another proprietary backup system?

Yes... I have used "an early" Navico 3G unit, see previous, post since July 2014. It replaced my old style Raymarine unit. The Lowrance 3G uses almost no power either transmitting or on standby, with a little tweeking it can spot lobster pots. It is less good at spoting storms but my old unit never managed this as it used so much power it was rarely on. It has never had a propriety plotter attached and runs using OpenCPN plugged directly into a 12v PC using the RJ45 socket. We have been full time liveabords for the last 15 years so it has had a lot of use. The latest OpenCPN software updates that include MARPA and the ability to treat radar targets like AIS are amazing. Highly recommended.
FWIW I use an ASRock Beebox running Intel 3010N Win 7 Pro - IT MUST HAVE OPENGL TO RUN THE RADAR PLUGIN.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
Paul..
I've a rather new Navico 3G replacing an early worn out BR24. No MFD so only using OpenCPN for the radar and it's the only navigation system on board. I'm more than happy with that system. A couple of PCs and some tablets for backup and more.
Those participating to maintain the plugin by various degree represents all different radar types supported. I'd though say the most frequent coders now a days has a Halo and a 4G, both Navico. But the early base coder for this plugin use a Garmin HD.
Mostly trouble on this thread? I think that's common for all forum. People are searching for help when needed. And, where I stay we say something like - Health is quit. But if you read back in this and other related threads also good report are present and I know these are really appreciated by the coder working hard for our benefits. So yes, why not more such reports.
Good luck finding a suitable system for your boat. I'm happy with my 3G on a slow 34' cruiser where I sail. Others have there own mind of course. (Raymarine radar scanner is not yet supported by radar_pi)

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
Looking for some assistance after stumbling around for a solution for weeks now, I have a Garmin xHD but I get no activity and no connection from the Radar plugin which also means no signal being received on the radome end. I am sure there must be something small I am missing judging by the ease of use others have. I am trying to learn how to upgrade the plugin to the 5.0.4 beta 2 without the PPA but I think that means learning to build.
Currently I have 5.0.1 and am using O5 on Rpi 3B, what am I missing here? I thought I read somewhere that I couldn't have wifi on at the same time, but either way I have wifi off and I am getting eth0: Link is down. Could this be an Rpi (read: my error) problem?
Cheers.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
Perhaps a quick reading of the manual will help?
Also there other RPI users have asked about "eth0", so you could do a search on the forum for that, because it sounds to me like it is that and your answer has likely been posted in the forum. Maybe an RPI user will answer. You must have the Garmin powered up..Can you hear it?

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
The unit is powered but I do not hear anything, I have talked with Garmin and they said that is standard and you will not hear or see the status light until the eth0 makes a connection. My scouring skills are lacking and I haven't found a resolution yet in the forums, but I will keep searching. Thanks for the quick response.
Cheers.

tyguybye..
First: My own experiences of the Garmin xHD type are none.
Next: There's what I know no significant difference in the plugin between 5.0.1 and later regarding Garmin xHD.
For discussion about the xHD read this if you haven't done it: http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...-136990-3.html
I've run my Navico scanner on the Rpi 3B using radar_pi although it's built locally. But I've one experience you may try: If the wifi is enabled there's no wire IP connection established to the radar scanner. So make a try to disable the wifi before connecting the radar cable. Then start OCPN.
BTW, you know OpenGL must be used?
And I suppose you have a compass and GPS signals available?
Also read the opencpn.log for messages from the radar. (Post it here for further help if you like. Rename a copy to opencpn.log.pdf to able to pass the upload filter.)

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
Thanks Hakan, Great points.
I think this should be added to the manual underTroubleshooting. Will keep an eye on this.
tyguybye
Would you please be descriptive and precise in your responses, with regard to the problems found throughout this process, and provide a few critical screenshots if they are appropriate?
It will help others.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released
Hakan
I have tested on both my Windows 10 machine running O5 and radar pi 5.0.3 and on my Rpi running O5 and the 5.0.1 and have the same result, I have read the mentioned thread before and made the lan ip static in my windows machine and followed the other recommendation to no avail. I am running direct from the Radome to the RPI/Windows unit LAN port.

Thanks for the tip on the rename and hopefully the attachment comes through, you can scroll to the bottom for the most recent startup of the plugin etc. I do have valid GPS and HDG that seems to be just fine, the problem as I see it is I can not get an initial connection to the Radome it just does not see it and cannot assign an IP. I have checked the LAN ports and have tried multiple ethernet cables including the supplied one from Garmin.

I am going to do my best to explain it properly and if I can improve at all let me know, I could not think of any screenshots that would help at this point. I think this is not a plugin issue but something stopping me from seeing the Garmin xHD, as a note I have tried 2 different xHD units and have the same results.
