Radar plugin 5.2.1 released
Dear all,
The master catalog now contains a new production release for the radar plugin, version 5.2.1.
If you were using the Beta version, switch back to the master catalog, update it, and then upgrade the plugin. Otherwise just upgrade the plugin.
Functional changes since 5.1.4, the previous production release:
- Add support for Raymarine E120
- Doppler Auto Track feature
- Doppler on all radars not just first 2
- HiDPI on Linux support
- Radar stays alive when OpenCPN is hidden
- Detect HALO radars with new serial numbers
- Send heading to HALO radar for Doppler when no MFD is present
as well as some non-functional changes.
Douwe is working on adding support for Quantum, but since we have no direct access to a Quantum radar we are calling on all Quantum owners to come and help. You can send a PM to me or to Douwe, or contact us on Github or via email.

Re: Radar plugin 5.2.1 released
Dear all, sorry to prabably asking a dumb question, but I am having difficulties upgrading the Radar Plugin on my raspberry-pi, while trying to update the plugin using the plugin manager, the process ran into a "404" error and then even uninstalled the "old" plugin. So, no radar plugin any longer. The URL https://dl.cloutsmith.io seems to be not available, can anybody help me?
Thanks and best regards, Uwe

Re: Radar plugin 5.2.1 released
Hi Uwe, somewhere in the production process the wrong URL was generated in the catalog for Arm. I.e. the URL should have contained ‘prod’ but it contains ‘unstable’. To work around this I have copied the files for armhf to the unstable repo and a download should work now.

Re: Radar plugin 5.2.1 released
Uwe..
And the failure that the previous plugin version is uninstalled before a successful installation of the new version is a mess but corrected in master source for next OCPN version.
And for info I just now tried the master catalog update of radar_pi 5.2.1 on a RPi3 Buster and it was successfully installed.

Dear Haken, dear Merrimac,
you re just great!!! Everything works fine. This was a very fast reply and solution. Again, thank you VERY much!!! I will be testing this when on my boat (currently corona is an impediment .....) and will try using it with a Halo 24 scanner ...
Thanks again and best regards, Uwe

Re: Radar plugin 5.2.1 released
Thank you Hakan
Is there an offline version that I could take on a USB to my unconnected boat?
In the absence of that; would simply coping the installed files from my home computer work?
Thanks in advance

Re: Radar plugin 5.2.1 released
SG.
There's a method with the new plugin manager. Although not stright forward. This is one way.
Now I'm on Windows. The same method would be applicable for other OS but different folders.
It also presumes you have a OCPN PC at home or at least connected.
- At home: Go to Options Plugins and "Update Plugin Catalog master"
- Select radar_pi and install the update.
- With file explorer goto: C:\ProgramData\opencpn\plugins\cache\tarballs
(C:\ProgramData\opencpn\ is where the log file exist.)
- There should be a file called:
Radar-5.2.1-+372.v5.2.1_msvc-10.0.14393-win32.tar.gz
- Copy that file to the USB stick.
- In the boat's PC:
Go to Options Plugins and "Import plugin.."
- Point to where you saved the file on the stick and select that.
- Select radar_pi and install the update.
If on Linux or Mac some file and directory names will differ but the methods are the same. (The first half of the file name, Radar-5.2.1-+372.v5.2.1..........tar.gz, will be the same.)
Good luck. Reports are appreciated.
Håkan

Re: Radar plugin 5.2.1 released
Hakan...
Is there any reason not to go to the Cloudsmith website:
https://cloudsmith.io/~opencpn-radar...prod/packages/
Prod = "Ready for release"?
A direct download of the latest release from there and "Import Plugin"would work for all platforms.
Mike

Re: Radar plugin 5.2.1 released
Thank you Hakan
The file actually is located at
C:\OpenCPN and supporting software\OpenCPN 5.2.4\OpenCPN\plugins\cache\tarballs\Radar-5.2.1-+372.v5.2.1_msvc-10.0.14393-win32.tar.gz
otherwise the instructions were good.
I installed a version on my boat computer and had no luck with the radar plugin.
Windows 8.1
OpenCPN v5.4.2 - running in portable mode
BSB charrs
WMM plugin
Radar plugin 5.2.1
2 COM ports thru USB, GPS and AIS
Ethernet to small hub connected to Raymarine E120
When the radar plugin is enabled, Open CPN seems to "lock up" when the radar windows appear. My COM port configurations were "lost" more than once. More than once I had to power off the computer as the task manager would not load.
The problems go away when the Radar plugin is disabled, and Open CPN seemed to run fine in my limited testing yesterday.
Regards
SG

Re: Radar plugin 5.2.1 released
Hello Mike
That you for the straightforward instructions.
They should be included in the plugins page of the manual here:
https://www.opencpn.org/OpenCPN/info...adplugins.html

Re: Radar plugin 5.2.1 released
SG..
Did you succeed to get it working with Mike's method?
Portable mode I have not tried with the new plugin manager. How is that working with other managed plugins?

Re: Radar plugin 5.2.1 released
Hi guys, I tried to update (via the plugin Manager) to Plugin 5.2.1 from 5.1.4 on OpenCPN 5.2.4 running on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS - focal
The plugin update breaks and disable the plugins. Once updated, I get an error message when I go in the plugin manager ("Incompatible plugin detected: /home/mine/.local/lib/opencpn/libradar_pi.so").
I think the 5.2.1 package available with the Plugin manager is not compiled for
Ubuntu 20.04 LTS - focal. I'm not sure how to confirm this.
To restore the plugin, I had to import manually the v5.1.4 and uninstall. Close opencpn. Then I re-imported and installed the v5.1.4 to have it works again.
