Protected files?

Because I tried to "integrate" the Dutch manual into OCPN, I tried to change someting in:

C:/Program%20Files%20(x86)/OpenCPN/doc/help_en_US.html .

But changes are not accepted. Is this file protected against overwriting?

Re: Protected files?

doc/help_en_US.html is hard coded in the sources. It is not foreseen to use any other language than english. That is one of the many lacks of OCPN.
To use your own language therefore the name of the main help file must still be doc/help_en_US.html and it must include the correct links to other files and pictures. Otherwise it does not work.

Re: Protected files?

Gerhard,

I tried as you discribed.

I used a html editorI only and changed one word in the content of the original help_en_US.html document an I leaved the name of the file unchanged, it does not work. Changed document is not accepted.

When I use a new html document (with other content) and give it the name help_en_US.html it is accepted. But when I open Help in OCPN not the new content is opened but automaticaly help_web.html is opened.

Re: Protected files?

Might be your html editor is the devil. html files are plain text and you can use any normal editor for ascii. Other editors sometimes include unknown code. I always write my html files with a plain editor and never with something else. Some knowledge of the html language might be usefull but it is very easy to learn.
For my own version of OCPN I use however the help system of macOS and not a browser to show the files. The macOS help system is similear to html.

Re: Protected files?

@ Gerhard (and others)

I think I found where the problem was. My new document was a .htm

I changed it in .html and now it works.

See my screenprint. This is waht you get when you open the Help. There now are 3 choices. The Dutch manual is now also "embedded".
