Problem with OpenCPN 2.5.0

I have a recurring problem with openCPN 2.5.0. I gather that no one else has this issue because I haven't seen any posts about it.
I had been using 2.3.0 with no problems and recently downloaded and installed 2.5.0. Everything went fine for a few weeks and then one day I opened the program and received the usual warning from windows 7 "do you want this program to make changes to your hard drive", I clicked "yes", then (because there was no GPS plugged in) I get the notification "com port not found", and then nothing. If I look at the task bar the icon is there, if I open the task manager it shows openCPN as running but nothing comes up on the screen. This has happened for 3 separate installations. When it happens the software will never open again. I re-install 2.3.0 and it runs all the time/every time with no problem. I then re-install 2.5.0 and it will run for 10 or 20 times and then it just stops. There is no "not responding' window, and as far as I can see it should open, but there is nothing there. Any Ideas?

Re: Problem with openCPN 2.5.0

You are definitely not the first one, this is a known issue with 2.5.0 and W7...
Fix: http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...tml#post761712
To prevent: don't close OpenCPN when the window is minimized.

My bad. I had actually searched and couldn't find a similar post. I read the solutions on your link and unfortunately they are slightly beyond my ability. I am computer literate in the sense that I can spell "computer". Thanks for the input, I guess I will go back to 2.3 for the time being. Its a shame because I was loving 2.5.......

WOW! I am not sure if I developed killer computer skills overnight or if your 'fix' was incredibly well explained and effective, but I did what you suggested in the other post and openCPN 2.5.0 worked like a dream! Thank you very much!
