Re: Plugin Polar

I see that the load routine is not very robust for other polar files.
It works OK for reloading saved files but it does not handle different files correctly.
Have to look into that.

Re: Plugin Polar

Peter,
I have looked at both .pol files that load and the Weather_routing .csv files and there is not a significant difference in formatting other than the following:

Wx_routing .csv VS .pol
-------------------------------------------
Beginning twa/tws VS TWA/TWD
Spacer ; VS Tab
End of lines CR LF vs CR LF

It seems to me that if the plugin were to read either format that might solve the problem.

I must admit that I find it difficult to replace ";" with "Tab" and test it, because Notepad ++ does not do that search and replace, but I can replace ";" with 4 spaces and that does not seem to work.

The CR LF is the same for both versions.

Re: Plugin Polar

I found one recorded Nmea file in OpenCPN File Thingie NMEA folder that does work with "Polar" plugin
the name of that file is not surprizingly "Konni-Wind-AIS.txt"

This file works with
Source: "GPS" Mode: "Data from Nmea" and playing VDR "Konni-Wind-AIS.txt" having the NMEA Debug Window checked to be sure there is data running.
Then the polars are filled in.

This file also works with
Source: "GPS" Mode: "Data from VDR" and selecting "Konni-Wind-AIS.txt" directly
and a window pops up "Loading Nmea messages from file" Then the polars are filled in quite quickly.

PLEASE NOTE that "Data from VDR" should be called "Data from file" because VDR is not involved.

I think that the Hartmut file should work, because it works fine with the Windows Polar Program called "Polauto" so I think that the Polar plugin is not using all nmea statements that can be available or something.

Re: Plugin Polar

Note that Pacupstart.txt works with GPS and Speedo,

but the Hartmut file does not work even though I have done extensive tests using that file with Polauto.

Also VDR_Simulation.txt works with speedo only.

VDR_AIS-File.txt also works with speedo and GPS

I have not tested logbooks files yet nor Have I tested the filters.

Re: Plugin Polar

Is there a location where to find these VDR files you are mentioning?

Re: Plugin Polar

Rick

The Harmut file has a 0 at the beginning of every line.
If I run it in the VDR plugin, I don't see any indication on the dashboard although you see the messages coming by in the NMEA debug window.
So I don't think that they are accepted by OpenCPN.
I have a modified Harmut file without the zeros and I see output in the polar plugin.

The VDR-Simulation file does not contain the RMC NMEA messages needed for the GPS speed.

I will make an update for the Load from VDR to Load from File remark.

Re: Plugin Polar

Peter, I should have checked Harmut file. I guess it got corrupted somehow with the 0's. I will change it as you did and hopefully it will work. Was very good for testing Polauto.
Thanks.

Re: Plugin Polar

Peter, Is there any chance the Weather_Routing polar.csv files could be supported?
There are just a few differences as far as I can determine. The twa/tws vs TWA/TWS
and the delimiter ";" vs [Tab]

Re: Plugin Polar

Fixed Harmut-Netherlands-Markermeer-Wind-AIS.zip (needs to be unzipped) so that there are not 0$ and 0! at the beginning and the file now works fine with Polar_pi.
Uploaded to OpenCPN Beta File Thingie NMEA subdir.

Thanks

Next need to try the filters and to understand them.

Re: Plugin Polar

I just updated the polar_pi plugin on

https://github.com/ptulp/polar_pi/releases/tag/v1.1001

Had to update the version number to reflect the patch number in OCPN.
Updated the load routine to be more robust.
Updated the wind direction in 5 degree steps.
Added colour reference for windspeed
Changed Load from VDR to Load from File

Executables for OSX, Ubuntu 64/32 can be found on above webpage.
Cannot compile for windows,.

Re: Plugin Polar

Peter,
Have git fetch and git pull and compiled. Running the new version loads weather_routing CSV boat polars much much better. Thank you.
Will test other parts later. Have uploaded to OpenCPN Beta File Thingie rguser rgpass
Look under folder 4.0 Win PI

I will upload some of these polar files as examples for use and testing later. Thanks Peter.

Re: Plugin Polar

Have just tried the average filter on the Harmut file. It appears to work, as it is taking longer with multiple calcs showing in the polar, and the results are different.

I have been trying to find out if I can import Harmut data or some other data into Logbook so that I can test it as a source. Have not found that capability (maybe I have not looked hard enough?).

Anyway it would be very helpful if someone had recorded some data in the logbook that will be useful to create polars and if they could rename to .doc and upload here or to the upload folder in OpenCPN File Thingie so we can test Logbook Konni as a source of nmea data.

Thanks.

Re: Plugin Polar

Thanks for the color reference very helpful.

""Updated the wind direction in 5 degree steps."
Would it be possible to enable selection in 5 degree steps as well?

Thanks Peter.

Do you mean the selection of the degrees like 5, 10 and 15 degrees??
