Phantom Boat display from AIS

We are finding phantom boats on our Open CPN map display that are not there. The AIS device also does not show these phantoms.

Any idea how to fix this?

You need toturn off reporting of your boat. Please read the ais portion of the manual. Thank you.

OpenCPN never shows any "phantom" targets it did not receive.
Check the settings in Toolbox -> Ships -> AIS Targets and make sure marking and removal of lost targets are enabled and the timeouts suit your needs.
