Partial display of S-63 maps

Hello,

I am new to OpenCPN and I have recently enabled an Australian Hydrographical chart pack, covering my cruising area in QLD.

While all the individual charts in the pack seem to be visible now, some areas have very low detail (while others are packed).

To check that this wasn't just a true reflection of the map detail - as the area of particular interest is not a commercial zone - I contacted the hydrographical office with a screenshot asking whether there was more detail than I was seeing.

They sent their screen shots back showing loads of detail not displaying in open CPN. (See attached)

Naturally I have tried to zoom in and out, searched the web and trialed just about every OPENcpn chart/display option there is to get an improvement.

However no luck. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Re: Partial display of S-63 maps

Please check the settings of "Display Category". Your selection is most probably "Base".

There is a chapter of the manual explaining how to configure vector chart settings, tailoring them to your needs.

Another tool are the keyboard short cuts like "s" for soundings, "l" for lights, etc..

Thanks, BCN - yes double-checked that. No success. (Tried both "all" and standard settings as well). It feels like one of the maps in the map bundle purchased has not been activated. However as far as I can tell it is. But I don't really know

To test if all charts are there....
Hit the "Q" key, which will take you to single chart mode. You will only see one chart on the screen, instead of a quilt of different charts.
If the chart rectangles in the chart bar has 90 deg corners and not rounded corners, you're in single chart mode. Now click the left most chart in the chart bar. This chart rectangle is now pale green instead of a darker. The chart shown is the largest scale available.

While you're at it check that Options->Display->Advanced->Vector is set to zero(for this test/our reference).
See attached picture, using oeSENC charts.

Re: Partial display of S-63 maps

Hello Thomas,

I did as instructed, and in my words "got a birds eye view" of all maps installed. It is not easy to see in the attached screenshot because of the green boundary - but it appears the Keppel bay and Isles map AU424150 is not shown??

I double checked that the map was included in the chart pack - and also confirmed it was in my list of activated cells in Open CPN. (see other screenshots)

Would this appear to be the problem from your more learned perspective?

Kind regards Angus

Re: Partial display of S-63 maps

Some screen shots for the area from my system here with an AUS chart set from 2018.
How do your settings for the display look like? (3rd shot, right side). What does your chart list say (hoover with the mouse over the chart piano to show the details).
Are you sure that you are in quilted mode and not in single chart mode? Rounded edges of the green rectangles in the chart piano?

Re: Partial display of S-63 maps

Just for comparison a screenshot for the next smaller scale chart in single chart mode.
Looks familiar?
