output gps data red lines in debug window

Hi

I am trying to output gps data and only see red lines in the NMEA debug window. Setup as follows:

• OCPN 3.2 running on Ubuntu 13.04 - no problem there
• Using puck gps (USB) and gpsd to receive gps data - no problem
• Trying to output gps data to gx2150 using serial connection and Serial to USB converter cable - no problem registering port, etc, but on ly see red lines and not sure why

I'm happy with the USB to serial setup, cables from PC to gx2150, etc.


Even with everything unplugged, I still only see red lines for the serial port in the debug window. The gpsd bit is all in green, and gps data absolutely perfect.

Any help will be appreciated. I'm sure it is something quite easy...

I added the NMEA code to the config file, but I cannot see any useful information in the log file (I think).

The log looks quite OK. Just to make sure - Is there something actually connected to that port? I mean not just the USB-Serial cable, but also something to communicate with at the RS-232 side. And does it work? Can you communicate with it when you use minicom or something like that?

What port is gpsd using? There is a chance it's /dev/ttyUSB2.....
Check by running

$lsof /dev/ttyUSB2

Thanks Guys, I'm starting to get the picture. GPSD is definitely on ttyUSB1, so that isn't the problem. RS232 was connected to the GX2150 VHF. In theory it should all be ok, so I will double check all the cables and wiring. Earlier had the GX2150 connected to a Furuno GP32 GPS, and it received GPS signal perfectly. So the radio isn't the problem. That pretty much leaves the wiring and soldering points.

I'll redo it and test step by step and post the results here. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction so far.
