As far as I know OpenCPN does not support Raspbian on x86 hardware. I have never tried it. What is the point? On x86 you can run the Linux or Windows version.

Fair enough ... That's all information I needed.
I just wanted to have a test environment before buying a Raspberry and alll stuff to go with.

I have it on a PC WIN10, and I am very pleased with it.

Thanks for your time to answer me.
Cheers.

A raspberry pi costs about $25 euros. It’s much less hassle to get one than fiddle with Raspbian on x86. I guess there will be lower prices on the 3B+ model now that the 4 model has been announced.

Re: OS Raspberry specific RPI

Hi,

Following my previous thread, I found the problem :
opencpn package depends on opencpn-tcdata package BUT this package is MISSING in the recomended ppa for raspian stretch "ppa.launchpad.net/opencpn/opencpn/ubuntu/ xenial main"
I could install opencpn on raspbian for PC downloading and installing packages with dpkg.
The problem would have been the same with a radpberry running stretch !
Nice, if somebody could push the package opencpn-tcdata on ppa !

Re: OS Raspberry specific RPI

The Raspberry 4 does not run on Linux Stretch.

You have to use the latest Buster version. This Buster version can also be used on the RPI 3. You can simple exchange the SD card between the 3 and 4.

OpenCPN also runs perfect on this set-up.

Now I am using the O-charts Vector ENC cards system called OESENC.

Copy protection of the Charts are possible by fingerprint or by an USB dongle with only the copy protection code.

This latest option make the chart sets no longer dependent on the computer system. You can use the same chart sets on several systems by only replacing the USB dongle.

I'am using the Flirc alu casing. Which act as a cooling by a connection pilar to the main processor.

This in combination with a daylight touchscreen works great with a very low power consumption.

Bram

Just wondering what daylight touchscreen you are using and if you can perform right click functions on it? And where did you get it from and how much did it cost? Lots of supplementary "and" questions I know

Hi

I asked Bram the same question, here is his response:

Hi Chris, I'am using a Faytech 10" touchscreen. Works very well. Mine bought in Germany. It is putted on a RAM support, so that I can turn the screen to be readable from the cockpit.

Re: OS Raspberry specific RPI

Well, again to the sound problem (distorted sounds, test only works once). I don't trust the portaudio-stuff anymore (and no - problem not just came with version 5, and not bound to Buster or Raspi 4. Had it since two years an a Pi3...

But compiling with
cmake -DOCPN_ENABLE_PORTAUDIO=OFF -DOCPN_ENABLE_SNDFILE=OFF -DOCPN_ENABLE_SYSTEM_CMD_SOUND=ON ..
really solve the problem for me.

When running from a shell, you can see the aplay - invocation. So when aplay works, opencpn does well with alarm sounds. Opencpn (or the portaudio-stuff) also was very picky about wich wav-file is accepted and played (it's a long time ago, that I tested that, could have been fixed in the meantime), aplay seems to accept other tunes better.

Re: OS Raspberry specific RPI

I am unable to install Opencpn on my rpi 4.
This is what is on the terminal after the final step.

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
opencpn : Depends: libtinyxml2.6.2v5 but it is not installable
Depends: libwxbase3.0-0v5 (>= 3.0.4+dfsg) but it is not installable
Depends: libwxgtk3.0-0v5 (>= 3.0.4+dfsg) but it is not installable
Depends: wx3.0-i18n but it is not installable
Recommends: xcalib but it is not installable
Recommends: opencpn-doc but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: opencpn-gshhs-intermediate but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: opencpn-gshhs-high but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: opencpn-gshhs-full but it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

I have installed it before with no problems.

Any help?

Hi Mike,

take the beta OpenPlotter 2.00 and you have all you need on the RPI4, including OpenCPN. Comes with Debian (Raspian) Buster. It is not yet completed, but it works great.

OpenPlotter 2 roadmap

Serial connecctions are best to installend in SignalK.

Bram

Re: OS Raspberry specific RPI

I have been facing a similar issue with a pi 3.
Make sure you are using the right ppa for opencpn (raspbian buster)
ppa.launchpad.net/opencpn/opencpn/ubuntu/ bionic main
All information here :
https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...spberrypi_rpi2
Hope this helps !

Works fine on a pi3b+ as well.
Plus the ppa is set up for influxdb and chronograf so just need to open a terminal and
sudo apt-get install influxdb
sudo apt-get install chronograf
sudo service influxdb start

Then install the signalk influxdb writer app to log and view all data, or just what you want.

Re: OS Raspberry specific RPI

Hi,

to the sound problem:

This problem exists since an Stretch update in april or may this year.
I use a rpi 3b+ with Stretch, oc 5.0 from the repo, a dAISy hat and a 3g Radar.
I got this problem after I updated Stretch via update and upgrade.
Luckily I got a Backup and so I switched back.
I´ll now try the way via pavucontrol.
Thanks for this solution

Regards

Andreas

http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...io-218897.html

I had Sound Problems due to an update of rasbian in june.

I now tested the soundprob with the pavucontrol solution.

It works!

Re: OS Raspberry specific RPI

Hi,

does anyone have a source for a small program or code to set the rpis clock and date to the actual one from the GPS NMEA stream after repowering?

The rpi losses it´s time and date after power down.
With the NMEA Network connected to the pi I have GPS time and date via NMEA.
But how to set rpis time and date via this NMEA stream?

Now I do it manually after every shutdown with the "date" command.

Regards

Andreas
