At present they use tha same tagging scheme as S57. It means that generally there should be one to one mapping between OSM and S57 document. So this is the question of properly translating it.

I'll review this issue as soon as OpenCPN package is accepted into the Debian. Also let's wait what OSM response will be, maybe they have more information.

zenfunk..

I agree one should avoid cluttering up OpenCPN with lots of un-neccessary features,BUT,charts are a very essential feature of a nav prog.,without charts it becomes pretty useless. As I suggested earlier, why not set up a user accessable link system from the right click menu in OCPN. External programs and utilities as preferred by each individual can be linked to local or remote, internet based utilities. This way,the programs are conveniently accessable without beeing an integral part of OCPN.

I made the OSeaM developers aware of our thread in the OSM forum.

OpenStreetMap Forum / [Openseamap]: Warum wird leisure=marina nicht gerendert und Leuchtfeue

The site is in german unfortunately, but the user Markus B is one of OSeaMs lead developers. You might be able to PM him.

A right click option like: "Add Seasign to OSeaM with JOSM" would be great indeed and won't distract or developers too much- LOL.

I already in touch with OSeaM people and they obviously agree that S57 is nice feature to have.

Just need to sort out OpenCPN package issues first before digging into this ;-)

Re: OpenSeaMap - S57-Based

Zonker...

ABSOLUTELY,would be very useful in conjunction with OpenSeaMap´s editing facility,Cruiser´s Net already have a similar facility based on seamless NOAA charts which are based on user-input and editing. The only problem with OpenSeaMap is that they still have not been able to solve how to provide soundings. Perhaps with the various overlay facilities Paul and others have created,we could use CM93?

We are also interested in porting OpenSeaMap on to Android phones/tabs and OruxMaps already have OpenStreetMap and all other on-line map systems included and it should not be a problem to also include OpenSeaMap. I have already spoken to Jose of OruxMaps about this.

So,come on Guys! Get rolling!

Tore

Re: OpenSeaMap - S57-Based

Finally I was able to download these charts but they are absolutely unusable for sailors. Their name "OpenSeamap" is misleading, that are not seamaps.

A minor glitch as we do not go sailing anymore.

Now how can this challenge be addressed?

I agree. OpenSeamap is far from being a usable sea map.
