Re: OpenCPN .xpm from .jpg Own Ship Icon

I have made some icons! I'm very proud ....... hahaha.

I am sure that most people here are way beyond me in terms of technical ability but I thought I would post how I did it. I would have been interested to know how to do it and maybe someone who shares my lack of computer related ability is also interested.

I also apologize for the apparent immaturity of the ones I made, but I have to admit to being very interested in the ability to mark my charts with the location of bikini girls and warnings of no alcohol areas.....

Anyway, I got some suitable pictures from Google Images, opened them with paint.net and cropped them. Then I re-sized them to about 40pixels high, (for some reason this next bit was important) I saved them as .png. If you dont do that they wont retain the oval shape. Then I opened them with GIMP and saved them as .xpm, and put them in the folder 'usericons'.
Ta da! Open OCPN and feel like a legend, hours of fun!

I am sure I saw someone write a comment about not posting unoriginal material so I haven't uploaded them. If anyone wanted the ones I have made I would be happy to let them have copies as long as it isn't against the rules of the community here.

In a token gesture of maturity I made a sensible one too.....

nixontankgirl.

Why go to all that trouble? When the image of your boat is scaled down to 45 or 33 pixels you will hardly see any deck features at all.

Try any one of the attached hull shapes which compares best to yours.

They are all in my icons download area.

It is intended as a general warning for any type of no alcohol zone....I find it is safer to stay as far away as possible just in case, so I couldn't actually tell you....
I guess I could make a really big icon and just drop it on Iran....
