Re: OpenCPN won't install under Ubuntu 15.10

Yes, you missed something....sorry I did not make it clearer.
The error appears immediately I click the grib icon, It fails before I ask for a file....
Seems to be in the MRU list?
....moments later
Yes, it is in the MRU list, its the only Bz2 in the downloads folder and got "Chosen" by the PI.

Umm, the hourgass is still spinning after the fail....some several minutes now.

"The hourglass is spinning" means that the application is unusable or just that the hourglass is spinning?

Re: OpenCPN won't install under Ubuntu 15.10

Hi Pavel.

The grib PI is looking or any bz2 in the download directory, and tries to open it.
Obviously Testdisk is not a grib and the error is created.
I removed Testdisk, and now the PI loads, and I may choose a grib, (there are none to choose)
I then close the PI (x) and the pinwheel (hourglass) spins, indicating a process running.
I then disabled the PI and the pinwheel still spins.
(need to view running processes ?)
Everything else works, I can create routes, measure, pan, zoom, etc....but the cursor is just the spinning pinwheel, spawned by the PI.

A few minutes later....

So I did a grib request by saildocs, downloaded a grb and pointed to it, viewed it, all ok, Changed a setting in the PI prefs to "open last file" etc...closed the PI -> Pinwheel still spinning....

Minor problem, but it is interesting....

Re: OpenCPN won't install under Ubuntu 15.10

I just tried GRIB under Ubuntu 15.10 to test, and it seems to work normal.

The Grib file is downloaded with Zygrib.

Re: OpenCPN won't install under Ubuntu 15.10

Just did a fresh install on Xubuntu 15.10 running in Hyper-V over Windows 10. All installs OK and the few plugins I have been able to test work just fine - and fast, too!

On my navigation computer (same OS) I cannot install br24radar - probably because I had an older version that did not work. I thought I cleaned it out, but nevertheless, the plugin does not install. Other than the plugins directory in /usr/lib/opencpn and the (temporary) install file in /var where else do I need to clean out the old data?

Cheers, ....Erik.

Re: OpenCPN won't install under Ubuntu 15.10

Erik...
Code:
sudo apt-get install opencpn-plugin-br24radar
should tell you what it does not like.
Apart from the library itself, the plugins have at least the localization files in /usr/share/locale/*/LC_MESSAGES

Re: OpenCPN won't install under Ubuntu 15.10

Hi Pavel,

The error was something about a broken pipe, but thanks, Ill check the localization tomorrow.

The problem likely was due to the *.deb file I downloaded and installed when the repository was in flux. I was too keen on testing my new radar....

Cheers, ....Erik.

Re: OpenCPN won't install under Ubuntu 15.10

FYI: I finally found the problem with the failing install of the br24radar plugin. Ubuntu leaves some information about installed packages in /var/lib/dpkg/info.

Once I cleaned the plugin information out of that directory, the install went smoothly. Perhaps this may help someone else solve a stubborn problem.

Cheers, ....Erik.
