OpenCPN with B&G 390 - NMEA Sentences

Hi,

I have a B&G Hercules 390 system and the normal way of interfacing with Nav software is via a poll/response 9,600bps RS232 interface. OpenCPN doesn't support this and, given the age of the B&G, I wouldn't expect an interface to be developed (although it would be nice if it were!)

However, the B&G also outputs the NMEA sentences DBT, HDM, MWD, VHW, VLW, VPW, VWR, VMT and XTE

I'm aware that some of these sentences are deprecated but are they sufficient for openCPN to work?

If your B&G outputs the cited sentences on a standard COM port you should see those in OCPN. Now you will need to try which are really used from OCPN.
