Re: OpenCPN will not open in Windows 10 64 bit

I had exactly the same problem. What I did was:
I uninstalled CPN in Control panel, than manually deleted all the CPN references on C: and all in the registry, reboot laptop. Installed CPN again...Bummer.... i had the same problem again.
I re-did the previous(uninstall etc. again) and re-installed v 4.6. Presto its working. This version has everything I need. Anyway I did not like the black background icons anyway.

Re: OpenCPN will not open in Windows 10 64 bit

You might want to use something like Ccleaner (Free) to uninstall and then remove the Registry entries.

No need to rebuild the whole PC.
BTW "parallel installment" in the OP is a new form of torture for the English language!

Re: OpenCPN will not open in Windows 10 64 bit

create an empty file named MMSINAME.CSV in the directory it expects to see it. It might let the bootup proceed.

If you did an uninstall and anything is running in the background using some of the files that the uninstall is trying to delete, those files will not be deleted. This can cause some uninstalls to go sideways on you.

Re: OpenCPN will not open in Windows 10 64 bit

OpenGL is a problem for me on Windows 10 Professional, a fresh install on new hardware. Intel core i3-5005U, 8GB RAM, 128 GB SSD.
OS Version 10.0.18362 Build 18362
Installed a browser (Brave, variant of Chrome).

Downloaded and installed the latest OpenCPN, Version 5.0.0 +9065270
Installed charts.
No GPS installed.

Ran OpenCPN. Ran extremely slowly, as if crashed, Windows frequently warning that OpenCPN was not responding. Unusable.

Seeing an earlier post by Cagney to run with OpenGL off, I used the cmdline
C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenCPN\opencpn.exe -no_opengl

Now it is running pretty well. It's a modest PC (low power, for the boat) so I don't expect anything amazing, but this is now quite usable, at least with no GPS input coming in.

Hope that helps someone.

Toaster..
It may be something else than a low power PC. Your: Intel core i3-5005U, 8GB RAM, 128 GB SSD is by me judged as a monster machine. I run Win 10 Pro on a ~15 years old Intel 1.8 GHz 4 GB Ram wo any obstacles. OpenCPN also with OpenGl is not that demanding. Well, running with some of Navionics chart support including about 15 000 chart files for a small area can be a challenge but I suppose that's not your setup

Remember that the internal format for ENCs will be created on a new system. Or the cache for raster.
This will slow down the system when touching charts not been rendered before.

You can force the SENC creation from Options|Chart Files --> prepare all ENC files
This is valid for S-63 cells too. oeSENC comes already "digested and prepared".

Re: OpenCPN will not open in Windows 10 64 bit

This is an old thread, but...

I attempted to use a new puck (the old one's drivers would not work in W10).

After much banging around, I got it to work on my laptop, which is nice, but not what's at my nav.

My nav version 4.6.something has just stopped working, new GPS or not.

No amount of closing (well, it closes itself due to not-working/messages to Microsoft) and re-opening has allowed it to reopen.

I attempted to go and download the most recent version; the download link did nothing.

I somehow found a link to the same version, which asked if I wanted to start over but keep all my settings; it did, and still tries to start and crashes.

I sure would like to find a way to get the current version, and my new GPS puck happening!

All the techie stuff is beyond my pay grade, maybe, and certainly beyond my time, particularly since this all started with the use of a new GPS puck, following a works-but-has-no-GPS many-times-opened recent history, and I have limited computer time available...

Sigh.

Re: OpenCPN will not open in Windows 10 64 bit

Update; I copied the link and opened it in a new tab, for the most current version.

It installed, after first asking if I wanted to keep all my old settings. I did, and particularly wanted to keep my old tracks. It may have - I dunno, cuz...

When it opened, it had no charts. Lots of little outlines, but no charts. I clicked on the charts tab in the options and saw that the main directory C:\charts was shown, but none of the sub directory/folders...

So, I asked for a full database rebuild, which is scheduled to take nearly 3 hours.

Will I still have histories, assuming the charts return?

Re: OpenCPN will not open in Windows 10 64 bit

Further update, the charts are taking forever to be found after I'd added all the sub directories (one level down) - but there are some with several layers further, such as the KAP files.

The good news is that, at least for a moment (not shown during the directory tree adventures, under way) I have a fix with the GPS puck I got to work with W10.

I don't recall all this adventure when I first set it up...

I noticed that also, you cant just click download link as nothing happens, website programming error. I do think opencpn remembers your user profile, so it should still be there.

yes right here for windows. I just tried it again and nothing happens when clicked, first link to download for windows OS

https://opencpn.org/OpenCPN/info/downloadopencpn.html

If I right click open link in new tab, then it downloads.
My OS is windows 10 64 bit versions 1909 and chrome, all up to date

Just noticed the MAC version also wont download.

It works for me (W10, Firefox). I click the [Download] link and a dialogue box opens offering "Save File" or "Cancel".

That is very odd. It won't download on my W10 64 2004 Chrome system either. Odd because I have previously downloaded 5.2 from there and indeed it's running on all my W10 devices.

It flashes up a very brief "waiting for opencpn.org" message then does nothing.

Quoting myself, as I have the answer to the question, as well as further update:

The first tree of the rebuild/sort/whatever apparently did not go to the subdirectories.

I added them manually and re-commenced. It did the updating/registering/whatever, but it took MANY hours. When I got up this AM, it had apparently finished, and the mucking around I'd done with my new cheapie GPS puck apparently worked, as there was a ship location - but no indication of satellites on the upper right hand corner, and my find-ship/show-tracks preference had not registered any locations in that time.

Concurrent (related? I dunno) failure of Chrome to open led me to shut down and then restart manually. When I opened CPN, version 5.2.0+4d956e1 was the view at the top left (what a strange version name!) - but it came up in the format I'm used to. Just a brief foray into charts suggests that we have all the prior information on tracks, including a half-dozen or so trips to the Bahamas.

So, all is well. Now I just have to figure out how to find and then make work the updater. The tracks I'm laying since early this morning (4 hours or so worth) show my anchor-swing area; when the tide reverses to be with the wind, we should have a very close idea of where our anchor is
