Re: OpenCPN (via openplotter) slow on RaspPi3

And if none of that works I'll load the latest Openplotter NOOBS (I assume it is the 2.0?) over the weekend - it's been on my list anyway - into a 3+ and see what I get.

Second the notion of a good SD card, I've had good luck with the Samsung EVOs as well. Thing to look for in this use is read speed. Many cards intended for cameras maximize write speeds, charting/OS loading takes a lot of reads, not a lot of writes. Or try putting the charts on an external USB drive (I personally don't do this, but it may be worth a try).

Awesome thanks for the recommendations.

I'll give these a shot and take a deeper look into this this weekend.

Re: OpenCPN (via openplotter) slow on RaspPi3

Raspberry PI3 can run direct from a usb SSD like the samsung T5 witch will make your raspnerry pi on steroids.

All raspberry's can easily be made boot-able from a USB ssd using the " usb-boot" utility just search google for " usb-boot.zip " and you will find the downloadable utility and forum discussion on raspberrypi pi forums.
no more poor disc performance on the Raspberrypi of any model.

Yep. In addition make sure you use the raspi-config utility to expand your disk partition to use all of the SSD.
