Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Released

Hello linux users....

Ubuntu PPA has been cleaned, sources uploaded, and packages are building now. Should be available for installation within an hour or so.
Sorry for the delay.

Hans,

OpenCPN 5.0.0 has centered the location of the display area (also called chart canvas) at some location on the Earth where you don't have any charts. If you have a working GPS connected to your computer, a click on the ship button (bottom-right corner of screen) should move the center of the screen to your location, and you should see some charts.

If you don't have a GPS on your computer, use the minus (-) key several times to see a much wider area, and you might see some charts. Either the keyboard minus or the minus symbol near the ship button on the screen should work.

This is only a problem when you first change from the old version to the new version (5.0.0) of OpenCPN.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Released

Hi Paul,
No, no charts. I can see the default very coarse map and my own GPS-position on that together with some waypoints and routes. But the proper maps which have been working fine in the previous version are not there. I use NV-charts and Oesenc maps, but again none of them is shown. I have of course been into the settings, charts, and used the buttons for scanning and reload of the maps, but to no avail.

Both oeSENC and NV charts need a plugin to display. All the plugins must be updated to work with OpenCPN 5. Did you install the updated plugins? Did you enable them? What do you see in the logfile?

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Released

Hi Pavel,
No I have not updated any plugins, where do I find them?
I found an old download of version 4.8.0 and installed that, just to check that nothing else is wrong - and 4.8.0 is working beautifully

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Released

I found the updated plugins for NVC and for oesenc - charts. But for the oesenc I still get an error stating that "plugin statusbar pi.dll" is not compatible ??

I think statusbar must be a wholly other plugin not chart related.

@ Head Sail

Is this what you're talking about?

Fore & background for "Tooltips" is handled by the windows manager, not OpenCPN, IIRC.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Released

So, after the help I received here I finally made ver. 5.0 work with my maps.
The chart plugins is downloaded from here:
https://opencpn.org/OpenCPN/info/downloadplugins.html

The nvc-plugin works rightaway, but the oesenc plugin have to be initiated:
Under preferences you have to click "create system identifier" and "reset o-charts credentials"

So I am up and running ver. 5
