Bram...

Not without more specific information. What exactly is missing? What OpenCPN package exactly are you using and what OS is running on your Pi?

Hi Pavel,

I'am using OpenPlotter is Raspian is Debian Linux. I tried to use the Linux version from bdbcat/opencpn. Tried several versions Xenial, Cosmic etc.

But it seems that the wxWidgets version is the main missing link. Version 5.0 works very well on my 64 bit Linux Mint.

I'am now back at the 4.8.8 version. But I can give it another try and inform about the outcome.

Regards,

Bram

Bram..
I use it on my RPi_RaspEx_Ubuntu_18.10. Home brewed though. Following the normal Pavel's advices here: https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...ompiling_linux

OpenCpn 5 works perfectly on openplotter. I have been building it for months since its very beginning and it has always worked well.

Now I have tested it installing it from scratch with the bdbdcat repository and it also works correctly.

You should try the version I have compiled of openplotter 1.2.0 updated till today and with OpenCpn 5 and XyGrib as main new features.

Do you?

Edit:

I forgot to tell you..

try to use both sources at the same time:

It worked for me.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

I have Opencpn version 5 running on Linux Mint.
I did have missing dependencies but I got it going in the end.
I'm still a bit new to this package manager stuff but this is how I installed it.

sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bdbcat/opencpn
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install opencpn

At this stage, I got the missing dependencies

I then added the live PPA
sudo add-apt-repository ppapencpn/opencpn
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install opencpn

And it installed

It would be useful if someone could explain what I've done because it doesn't seem correct to me. I would have thought that with the live PPA, the old version would have been installed.

Hurricane...

The OpenCPN Beta repository does not contain the GSHHS base charts, among other things. That is why you get dependency errors with only the Beta repo configured.

The "add-apt-repository" command does just that. Now you have two OCPN repos configured.

apt will suggest and install the latest available version for any application, normally. It looks at all the repositories currently configured to make this determination. In your case, it found OCPN5 Beta in the Beta repo, and installed it. It acquired the needed dependencies from the Release repo.

All is well.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

All...

As an aside:
Unless you are building a custom version of OCPN for your own specific use, the Beta test program is best served by downloading, installing, and testing the official Beta packages, for each platform. This is, after all, what real users will see in production.
Especially useful are what we call "bare-metal" installs. This is where OCPN is installed on a system that has never seen OCPN before.

Of course, if you like to build from source for fun, go to it! This helps, too. But please understand that we cannot devote very many cycles to debugging private local build environments.

Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave, I tried Hurricane's suggestions, and it installed in Mint 19.
One of his lines has an emoticon showing which messes up the ppa add command.

should be ppa colon opencpn/opencpn, it is off putting the forum software messes this up.

sudo add-apt-repository ppapencpn/opencpn

I can't move the left toolbar at all and when I activate the Dash the toolbar obscures the Dash.

What does "does not work" mean exactly for you? I have received this yesterday, which seems not to confirm your report:

So the only thing needed is for Paul to also rebuild his plugin.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

Thank you for the answer.
The display is correct, but creating GE2KAP cards is not possible.
The plugin is refused, I think we have to wait for a modification by Ph. Higgins.

Thanks for that Dave.
You have cleared up a lot of my misunderstanding.

BTW - I keep a set of base operating systems in VirtualBoxes
So all my installs are (as you put it) "bare-metal" installs.
The Windows and Linux Mint 19.1 versions installed and seem to be working fine.

Did you seem my comment about linking the canvasses?
I know this is the wrong place and time but maybe a button/menu item that would link the two canvasses so that the pan together but zoom independently.
