Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Release 4.99.1426
The Inland toolbar does have almost the same functionality as the new 'canvas' toolbar.
How about change the canvas toolbar a little bit if inland Ecdis is used and forget about the old dedicated inland toolbar??
I think the function of the zoom buttons should be adjusted and also the chartscale indication. That should be enough.

"Ptizef are you compiling from source? Any lingering plugins from a previous version? "
answer :
yes compiled from sources and I just made a new compile with the very last master
Not 100% but easily reproducible... Sufficiently to bore to tears a no geek user.
NO I don't load any plugin except the four built-in

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Release 4.99.1426
Some remarks about inland
1)
"This is intentionally. O will start in "Dusk Mode" under InlandECDIS as a requirement of the standard. Neither blind you at night nor invisible at day when starting."
Ok but in this case why not switching in "Dusk Mode" immediately when setting the option ?
2) The specific Inland toolbar has no "Dusk Mode" nor "Night Mode"
3) I perfectly agree that it would be better and more logical to adapt the canvas toolbar instead of having a third one

It was mainly an issue with using uppercase!

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Waypoint Properties
The new Extended Properties feature has prompted me to write about this capability. Can download my blurb from here.

OK, I generally agree. But the devil is in details.
Are we suggesting that the user will have NO control over the rings spacing units of measure for waypoints?
That is, if the Options->Display->Units setting is Nautical Miles, then the spacing of rings is NM, with no other choice possible. And so we can remove the drop-down list for unit selection entirely?
Similar for kM or Statute Mile or metres?
This is of course a regression against OCPN 4.8.x....

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Release 4.99.1426
Hi all,
Commit dd12fde0f broke the automatic display width detection (I'm running Wayland on Linux Ubuntu 18.10 in case it matters) on my Dell XPS 13.
Before the commit it was:
Metrics: m_display_size_mm: 290 wxDisplaySize: 3200:1800
After the commit it is:
Metrics: m_display_size_mm: 847 wxDisplaySize: 3200:1800
This affects (at least) the size of the AIS objects, which are now too small on my display.
Stelian.

Stelian...
Any chance you have an external monitor connected as well? Better support for multi monitor configs was the motivation for that PR...

Stelian...
When we have you around, can you have a look if the current recommended gdk_screen_get_width_mm replacements from https://developer.gnome.org/gdk3/stable/GdkMonitor.html work any better? I have no physical Linux machine, so my tests are completely useless...
Thanks
Pavel

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Release 4.99.1426
- New mbtiles code (since 285e87c0) doesn't work with whole world chart.
- when zooming in/out quilt selected charts list is very different vs without mbtiles.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Release 4.99.1426
Haven't been following this. Is this a question of setting Waypoint rings globally rather than individually? I think it is a good question. I have gotten by with waypoints set individually. I can see the advantage of having them set globally, but there are occasions where scale of the chart makes a difference. If they were set globally, would there be access to it in each waypoint properties? IE: a global setting that would change ALL waypoints ring range? I think that is unexpected. Best to leave it as it is I think. The user has to manage it properly. You can't save all the lemmings or even any of them.
If it is important, why not create a new topic to discuss it, then if changes are needed create a Tracker item, like other requests?

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Release 4.99.1426
did-g...
The display concept of MBTiles has been changed. Now, tile charts are rendered as "last stage" overlays on whatever base charts would be normally rendered. We do it this way to accommodate various tilesets that are sparsely populated, allowing the base charts to appear where there is no corresponding tile.
As mentioned before, we do not expect MBTiles to be used as primary navigation source, but rather as supplemental assists to safe navigation.
What world mbtiles chart are you testing?
Examples of "- when zooming in/out quilt selected charts list is very different vs without mbtiles.", please.

Rick...
Let us not widen the discussion here, but maybe elsewhere regarding potential Feature Requests to the present design.
The question here is:
"Should we follow the global "Units" setting for range rings?"
