Re: OpenCPN Version 5.5.x Beta Test Starts

go to:-
Tools options charts tide & currents add dataset
Then point towards your own data file (tcdata)
import Harmonic.idx

Is that clear enough.
Many thanks for this update, will take a look over the next few days.

"On BBN OS OpenCPN 5.5.90 plugin toolbar is misplaced and covers main menu. It’s not draggable by mouse or touchscreen. "

A screenshot would be very helpful.
Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.5.x Beta Test Starts

MacOS Plugin Update...

Hello all Mac users.
We had hoped that the update to wxWidgets 3.1.5 would result in plugin libraries that would be ABI compatible with wx3.1.2 across the Plugin API, but it turns out that such is not the case.

So, this situation will require us to rebuild all plugins for MacOS.

To manage this transition for the OCPN 5.5.x Beta process, we will temporarily serve MacOS plugins compatible with O5.5.x from the Beta plugin catalog.

There are a lot of plugins. We will start the migration with the most popular plugins, especially for alternative chart type support. A few are available now (s-63, o-charts). More will be forthcoming. Please bear with us as we make this move.

If you have a particular MacOS Plugin that you would like to install/test immediately on O5.5.x, please speak up, and we will prioritize the migration of that plugin.

Thanks

Dave...

the S-63 and o-charts plug-ins are running fine now.

We will need the oeSENC and the oeRNC plug-ins as well.

Background:
the new o-charts plug-in unifies the two existing plug-ins for vector and raster charts from o-charts and will bring a lot of improvements and simplify handling.

The new plug-in from the beta catalogue will show existing oeSENC and oeRNC charts. It does not allow to request and install charts from the actual o-charts shop however.
The latter requires new functions at the shop, which we are implementing and testing these days.
The o-charts plug-in will become mandatory in the moment we switch the shop to the new formats.

macOS Big Sur, macMini (M1 ARM):

panning by dragging the charts (click left & hold, pan) will place the cursor somewhere at the top of the canvas or even slightly higher, starting the drag there. What does not allow to move to the requested position.

Simple click to center the canvas at the position does work correctly.

Thanks Dave,

Indeed, with an empty opencpn.ini, it is not crashing.

However, I edited the existing opencpn.ini
1. I disabled all plugin and checked if it was starting => OK.
2. I enabled the Dashboard sections to retrieve the dashboard settings => OK
3. Then I used the built-in plugin manager to enable the other plugins I was using before.
4. With the oeSENC plugin, it was a bit tricky, as he asked to update to the last version. After updating it, I tried to use it. Rebuilding the chart database, preparing the eoSenc charts, but he lost many times the groups of chart I defined before (he knew the groups names but as empty groups). After redefining the groups, it was OK.

Doing so, it is OK for me, but I cannot say which plugin was the source of the crash. To find it, I should do more testing. I agree to do it if you need it in the next days/weeks. Let me know :-)

Best regards, Pierre

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.5.x Beta Test Starts

Dave..
My previous report on a Win10 is partly solved by deleting the config(ini) file to let O rebuilt a new but I get the imaging this wasn't connected to plugins.
Then O is started but some issues still remain:
  1. O is not closing properly any time so the ask for safe mode is there on every subsequent start. The log is ending here all times:
14:33:54.372 MESSAGE chartdb.cpp:1148 Creating new chart
    14:33:54.372 MESSAGE chartdb.cpp:1265 Initializing Chart Z:\Dokument\Ove\Mina dokument\Sjökort\OpenCPN Sjökort\Svenska\sgl001CD470-SE-2021-28\OC-46-W0SHB2.oesenc
    14:33:54.378 MESSAGE Osenc.cpp:629 Osenc_instream decrypt ?
The effect of this is (of course) among other things that canvas settings like Anchor info ON/OFF is not saved in the config file.
  2. On the new config file there was already chart assignments?
I found out it was from the Windows registry at:
    Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\OpenCPN
This key was old and contained scrap instead of the Swedish characters.
Is there a reason O need to use the Windows registry? Could it cause other malfunctions?
  3. This Beta Windows install package is detected as virus by some Windows Defender. Not only the "Normal" "Unknown program" message but already at the download process. You can't save it to disk without enhanced bypass operations.

Even if we may need a new config file for O 5.5 it would be desirable O will handle this with own logic. It's not obvious for all users to delete a program file as a problem solution?

Thanks
Håkan

GRIB plugin issue with a vertical video

Hi Dave,

If you remember it, I am using an external video connected on my Win7 Laptop.

This video is installed in vertical position.

The GRIB plugin does not compute the window size the right way. That is the wind arrows are shown on a part of the window at the top of it.

This is not a new issue of the plugin nor a blocking problem. It is existing since many versions...

Bets regards, Pierre

These two plugins for MacOS are now available in the Beta catalog.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.5.x Beta Test Starts

Hi Dave

Thanks' for this new version.

Tested on a new W10 device and it works well.
Also compiled successfully.

Just a problem for the moment : the heading is not shown in the rollover legs info, neither for routes, tracks nor for route creation. ( see screen shot attached)
The code :" wxString::Format( wxString("%03d° ", wxConvUTF8 ), (int)brg ) "
doesn't work and hide the entire information.
Replacing it by this code :
" wxString::Format( wxString("%03d%c ", wxConvUTF8 ), (int)brg, 0x00B0 ) " witch is used in many part of the code elsewhere, works fine and seems to satisfy all plateforms

Regards
JP

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.5.x Beta Test Starts

Dave, all seems to work OK for me, windows 10 pro version. They only thing I would like is the possibility to have the course degree number on the course line for line longer than say 1/4 of a mile or so; or what ever one wants. This in order to avoid crowding the chart, if one does the roundings. I know that we can see them in the route manager, but maybe one can do that. Thanks for this version.

Move nuisance popup please

When inserting a waypoint into a route a popup appears asking if you want to rename all waypoints. This is a nuisance as you refine a detailed route.

I suggest this option be moved to Options/Ships/Routes/Points.

Thanks, Terry

Seconding this. MacOS Catalina, 2019 Intel MBP.

Chart dragging is completely broken. Clicking on the chart relocates and sometimes changes the zoom level at the start of a drag action. Almost impossible for me to get to an off screen position quickly right now.

Need explanation

I've not been able to understand the following.

I've created a polygon using the route tool. After selecting the first waypoint to complete the polygon I get the popup shown on the image.

"Append (part of) this route to the new route?"

What is this supposed to mean or do if answering 'Yes'?

Thanks, Terry
