Re: OpenCPN Version 5.10.2 Released

ANNOUNCEMENT

The "official" release of OpenCPN v5.10.2 for debian is now available in the debian repo "bookworm-backports".
This is the canonical release point of OpenCPN for Rpi 4/5 Bookworm distributions.

Further information:

Debian bookworm is mature and fully stabilized now for all supported platforms. Accordingly, we will not be releasing OpenCPN v5.10.x for debian bullseye-backports.

Good Luck

All that looks right.
What happens when you do:

Code:
$ sudo apt install opencpn

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.10.2 Released

Hi Dave,

perfect now, removed crabdance from the source list and left as a comment (with "#") I did again:
Code:
sudo apt autoremove opencpn -y
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list.d/opencpn.list
and insert at the beginning of the line of crabdance #
save and exit
Code:
sudo reboot now
sudo apt update
sudo apt install opencpn -y
...
Configurando libwxgtk-gl3.2-1:arm64 (3.2.2+dfsg-2) ...
Configurando libshp2:arm64 (1.5.0-3+b1) ...
Configurando opencpn-data (1:5.10.2+dfsg-1~bpo12+1) ...
Configurando libusb-0.1-4:arm64 (2:0.1.12-32) ...
Configurando libcxx-serial1:arm64 (1.2.1-5+b1) ...
Configurando wx3.2-i18n (3.2.2+dfsg-2) ...
Configurando libunarr1:arm64 (1.0.1-1.1) ...
Configurando libtinyxml2.6.2v5:arm64 (2.6.2-6+deb12u1) ...
Configurando libglew2.2:arm64 (2.2.0-4+b1) ...
Configurando opencpn (1:5.10.2+dfsg-1~bpo12+1) ...
....
now started opencpn in version 5.10.2

it seems to be some kind of interaction between crabdance and backport, so I'll leave as comment the repository of crabdance until would test another newer version.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.10.2 Released

just a little question RPi 4 & 5,

installing O 5.10.2 it says to me some option as additional packages, suggested and recommended.
for the suggested I have no problem after installation done, and installed.:
Code:
sudo apt install glew-utils fonts-mathjax-extras fonts-stix libjs-mathjax-doc -y
for recommended:
Code:
Paquetes recomendados:
  opencpn-sglock-arm64
done
Code:
sudo apt install opencpn-sglock-arm64 -y
Leyendo lista de paquetes... Hecho
Creando árbol de dependencias... Hecho
Leyendo la información de estado... Hecho
El paquete opencpn-sglock-arm64 no está disponible, pero algún otro paquete hace referencia
a él. Esto puede significar que el paquete falta, está obsoleto o sólo se
encuentra disponible desde alguna otra fuente
but not installed, How could be installed that packet??

installed packages during setup:
Code:
sudo apt install opencpn -y
...
Se instalarán los siguientes paquetes NUEVOS:
  fonts-mathjax libcxx-serial1 libglew2.2 libjavascriptcoregtk-4.0-18 libjs-highlight.js libjs-mathjax libshp2
  libtinyxml2.6.2v5 libunarr1 libusb-0.1-4 libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 libwxgtk-gl3.2-1 libwxgtk-webview3.2-1 opencpn opencpn-data
  wx3.2-i18n
0 actualizados, 16 nuevos se instalarán, 0 para eliminar y 2 no actualizados.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.10.2 Released

Great release but having issues running it under KDE 6.2 with Wayland.

OpenGL acceleration does not work (black screen on opencpn) - no errors in the logs, just black screen, maps visible when opengl disabled.

On the same system in X11 everything is working as expected.

Arch linux - nvidia driver - v560.35.03

OpenCPN Version 5.10.2 not receiving NMEA0183 on COM port due to Channel Information

Upgrading from 5.6.2 to 5.8.4 did not work for me: my Windows PC could not receive NMEA0183 information from my Miniplex 2Wi multiplexer through USB/COM port. It could through UDP.

I asked on the cruisers forum: post 178 on OpenCPN Version 5.8.4 Release:
https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3883005
I could not solve it then, reverted to 5.6.2, launched the boat and did a really big sailing trip. Now, with 5.10.2 out I gave it another try. Same problem.
I solved it yesterday and would like to inform you about it. I discovered the cause is that the Miniplex multiplexer inserted "channel information" into the NMEA0183 stream. This is an option, called TAG blocks, highlighted yellow. See the first picture. This "channel information" could be handled by 5.6.2 but not by 5.8.4 nor by 5.10.1. When I switched the multiplexer's channel information insertion off, both latter openCPN versions worked.
See the second picture, a screenshot of the Miniplex 2Wi manual. From that I understand that this channel information is allowed in the NMEA0183 standard, although maybe little used. I switched this on at some moment for debugging purposes.
If it is not too much trouble, it would be nice this tolerance for channel information could be added in a future release; maybe recycled from 5.6.2.

Chart group bug report

I entered the following bug report on Github, bug report#4217. Please let me know if you found the same issue; and please vote on Github to get this prioritized. Thanks.

I use 4 separate chart groups for my 4 different directory version of CM93ed2. Plus more chart groups for USA or NZ charts and mbtiles.
I upgraded from 5.6.2 to 5.10.2 and this is not possible anymore.
To Reproduce:
It can go wrong in various ways. For instance: I create charts groups for my 4 CM93ed2 directories, and add these directories to the respective chart groups, and click OK. And I get an immediate popup warning that one of the CM93ed2 chart groups is empty. They are then all 4 empty except for one.
Or, if the popup warning does not happen: Then I try to switch between CM93ed2 chart groups by clicking on the 1....4 keys. Then again I get these popups warnings telling me that CM93 chart groups are empty. When I check that chart group, initially the directory might still be shown in that chart group, but by for instance clicking "apply" it disappears.
Ultimately and consistently, all 4 CM93ed2 chart groups are empty, except for one.
This all while doing sufficient database rebuilds between the various actions and clicking "apply".
I then downgraded to 5.8.4. Same problem. I downgraded further to 5.6.2 and the problem disappeared.

Screenshots:
Video screenshot of 100 MB showing the problem can be downloaded via
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/fhn0z...7ch7903iy&dl=0

Desktop:
- W11 pro on 64 bit AMD and W10 on Intel
- openCPN 5.8.4 and 5.10.2. It works correctly on 5.6.2, tested by downgrading from 5.10.2 to 5.8.4 to 5.6.2

Additional context
Having multiple different CM93ed2 chart directories is useful, in 3rd world countries the detail level between versions is quite different
