It appears that going to the panel when invited from within OpenCPN does not work, but going there independently does.
Spoke too soon - issue is back.

Yes. The exact same configuration.

I had to tweak a bit some sliders (user interface, zoom etc because some items were too small), but besides that everything works fine.

Wait a minute.

I've just re-installed opencpn 5.0.0 (from Ubuntu universe repository), and it does not work (same behaviour, map covering only one quarter of the screen).

However, OpenCPN 5.0.x, locally compiled, worked fine on my laptop (using screen scaling) a few days/weeks ago. I cannot remember though if it broke when updating to 20.04. I think (but I'm not sure) that my opencpn binary, compiled on Ubuntu 19.10, continued to work even on 20.04. Then, a couple of weeks ago, I decided to try the new beta, did a make clean and rebuilt everything and this is when it started to fail.

Ok, I found the reason: opengl + screen scaling works with wxwindows + GTK2, but not with GTK3.

If I install the opencpn binary from here:
http://ppa.launchpad.net/opencpn/ope...mic1_amd64.deb

it works.

Ubuntu 20.04 has this package:
libwxgtk3.0-0v5 - wxWidgets Cross-platform C++ GUI toolkit (GTK 2 runtime)

which provides the runtime libraries for wx + GTK2. Unfortunately, the -dev package is no longer supplied. So I'm unable to rebuild opencpn myself (v5.0 or v5.1).

Anyway, does the new v5.1 compile on wx + GTK2 and work properly ?

Just tried the RC1: installing the opencpn-bionic version (GTK2 based) will work properly with openGL + screen scaling.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.612 Beta Test

Stelian....

5.1 built on Bionic (gtk2) runs fine, on Bionic.

Is there anything special required to get the OCPN 5.1 bionic(gtk2) build to run on stock Ubuntu 20.04 (focal), using GL and screen scaling?

Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,

No, nothing special, I've just installed your beta .deb and it was ok. After installation, I had to tweak again some display settings in OpenCPN in order to have some less details on screen and to make some icons bigger or smaller...

Just make sure to remove all the old opencpn-* packages before installing the package, if any, because there were some conflicts IIRC (with opencpn-data or opencpn-tcdata or opencpn-gshh...).

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.612 Beta Test

Greetings,

I'm finding this version to be less stable on my Mac running OS X Catalina. The file system seems to struggle and rebuilding the chart DB makes it crash, amongst other things. This was an issue I struggled with on O5.0. Wondering what's different now than in previous versions of the beta? Or is is something that "builds up" and causes things to choke?

Wish I had more info, but I can't as of yet, give an accurate description of what is causing it to crash.

Although I'm not Dave I think you'll find what you need here: https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...pn_user_manual
To install the particular beta version of OCPN look at the first post in this thread: https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3168368

Welcome to enjoy the fantastic world of OpenCPN

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.612 Beta Test

Until OpenCPN handles incoming Active Waypoint nmea info from the chartplotter, and fixes its convoluted way of uploading waypoints and routes to the chartplotter, I'll be sticking with MacENC.

Nice program otherwise, lots of great features and expandability.
