Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.529 Beta Test

Don't want to be picky but may as well document it here with the hope to help improving consistency.
W10: - shouldnt all 'user' related data be in ~/ProgramData/OpenCPN rather than ~/Program Files (x86)/opencpn - notice also the difference in spelling caps!
latest beta installs and then expects e.g. tcdata in .../Program Files although they already exist in .... /ProgramData ...
No bug then occurs just another tcdata directory is created unneccessary.

PS: same inconsistency with ~/sounds

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.529 Beta Test

Dave,

I installed the "un-Official" version 5.1.605. Ok, it works but I had no problem with version 5.1.29

Here is a small detail that I observe with the two versions. Look at the attached screenshots.

I have displayed the list of objects on an oeSENC chart. At the very bottom of the window, there are two links in blue "Readme.text" on which we can click.

- On the one hand, the displayed text occupies too large a width. A reduction in width would be welcome.

- On the other hand, for the two links, it is the same text. Is this normal?

Yes, I can confirm that. You will even get this link with objects of CM93 charts where it links to the file "Serialno.txt". It is simply another bug and error of the lead developer David Register. It seems he is getting too old now...

re:
HTML Code:
"Currently, even if we do not have this instrument on the boat, the 3 items "Heading up", "Head up mode" and "Head up" appear in the context menus and / or in the "Display panel nautical charts ".

We now have context menus and a panel that becomes difficult to read, there are so many items present."
Good idea. Adopted.
In next Beta, if Heading instrument is not present, the context menu item choice for "Head Up" will not be offered. This is automatic.

Thanks
Dave

I agree. I have very few issues and no real problems with 5.1.29. I run it side-by-side on a laptop next to my "actual" install of 5.0.1 and I find it more stable. I'm very happy with it.

Will have to look into 5.1.65...

SCarns...
From the 518 thread:
"Dunno if this is important, but I've noticed this after a Mac switches back from Dark Mode to Day Mode: The chart scale bar looses it's background. I'm on Mac OS Catalina."

I cannot reproduce this.
Any more info? "What do you mean by "Dark Mode" and "Day Mode" ?
Thanks
Dave

Dave,

The MacOS has "Dark Mode" and "Light Mode" built into the OS. It can be switched to turn on and off automatically. Basically the OS, menus, dialog boxes, etc. change based on the time of day. Again, I'm not sure it matters much, as it works just fine in either mode. It's just that that one box doesn't switch back...

Hello Dave,

Can we have the same if no AIS Equipment is on the boat ?, it will bring more visibility if all AIS Items are blackout in that case.

Thanks for everything

Dave

"man opencpn" needs updating. (Linux specific)

The option "-safe_mode" is not documented.

Hello,

I do not know if this has already been reported.

When I display a GRIB file, the tide indicators change color and become difficult to understand.
See the illustrations below.

Windows 10, OpenGL box checked, with OCN 5.1.605 (same with previous versions)

It's not a bug it's a feature ;( But I don't know how to do it properly from a user POV.
By default tide scale are showing water level at computer time, but with grib and a couple of other cases they are displaying tide at grib TIME, IMO very useful for harbors with locks, wall or no water at low tide. We need to visually show that it's not current time or maybe not?
