OpenCPN Version 5.1.511 Beta Test

Hello all OpenCPN supporters !

Continuing our Beta test, here is Beta v5.1.511

Here are the links for Windows and Mac installation packages.

The downloadable installers for Mac and Windows are here:
Windows

http://download.opencpn.org/beta/ope...3b5e_setup.exe

MacOS
http://download.opencpn.org/beta/Ope...+1.a1f3b5e.pkg

For linux users running a debian-derivative distribution, you may install the Beta using your distro's package management tools.
Packages for Trusty, Xenial, Bionic, and Focal are available from the OpenCPN Beta PPA.

Please note that above links are fixed, and will not reflect the ongoing daily build cycles.
If you need to test a feature that you know or suspect has been fixed or added by a daily build, you may find it here:
https://cloudsmith.io/~david-registe...able/packages/

Here is a list of some of the corrections and new features in this Beta release:

1. Correct COG indicator line update lag on course change, Windows.
2. Correct Track color dialog selector, Windows.
3. Correct rendered width of Safety Contour, S57 ENC.
4. Correct update of IP and Port on signalK auto-discovery option.
5. Allow selection of plugin panel by clicking on status icon.
6. Confirm fix for shared waypoint visibility.
7. Make Vector Charts->Show Text default "ON" for all platforms, initial installation.
8. Implement tile highlighting on MBTiles piano button rollover.
9. Improve MBTiles render inclusion rules using groups and file size.
10. Improve plugin manager dialog layouts.
11. Make "scale-0" sounding font size a bit smaller.

There are a few items noted from the last Beta that have not been resolved. Still working to reproduce/fix.

Thanks
Dave

Thanks! This works ok for me on a Dell i5 laptop and on Asus ARM Tinkerboard (both Linux). Hopefully it works for Baikal too.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.511 Beta Test

All..
For info I don't think mentioned before is, thanks to Sean, a new function added in this beta. AIS real time prediction option.

When enabled a predicted virtual AIS target position is drawn. Not less useful for AIS B targets where real position updates can be paused for a certain time.

This option can be enabled in Options->Ships->AIS Targets-> [ ]"Draw AIS realtime prediction".

Note that only targets with a speed (SOG) more than the adjustable speed limit also used for moored targets will be predicted. (To not trigg the function for e.g. anchored targets)

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.511 Beta Test

I tried installing using
Code:
 $ sudo apt-get remove opencpn
$ sudo apt-get install opencpn
The sources file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/bdbcat-ubuntu-opencpn:
Code:
deb [arch=arm64] http://ppa.launchpad.net/bdbcat/opencpn/ubuntu bionic main
I ran into problems with dependencies for tcdata. Tried using an older package, but no success.

I expect also problems with gshhs-crude since HARMONIX and GSHHS-c are now included in the standard package.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.511 Beta Test

Testing version opencpn-msvc_515112175a1f3b5e_setupexe
Icon - not displayed
Mbtiles - the behavior of working in a group suits me completely, Thanks Dave!
Notice overlay when the ENC and Mbtiles and switch back to Mbtiles group all the charts are turned off. Maybe when you switch to Mbtiles group include them automatically?
Marks of the depths - much better
Safe Isobath / Depth - Shows well for my 24` screen size

Gaps in DEPARE areas on ENC charts still not understood
In ENC viewers this is not observed

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.511 Beta Test

This version 5.1.511 works perfectly for me right away, no hassle. Many, many thanks for it, excuse my criticism but now the size of soundings are more appropriate. I have change the MUI_flat and tcdata to mine (MORE THAN (4000 stations)) and things are OK. It is a big improvement and will mostly reduce the criticism. So far as the ECDIS is concern, you are just as good as they are and maybe better in many ways. I have a long exoerience in restricted waters with them and they are not all perfect, that I can assure you.
Best Regards.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.511 Beta Test

Dave, thanks for progressing this beta so quickly!

When I change the Chart Object Scale Factor the changes work right away on a CM93 chart. But with an OEsenc chart there is no change until OpenCPN is re-started.

Dave

My distribution:
Code:
$ cat /etc/os-release
NAME="Ubuntu"
VERSION="18.04.4 LTS (Bionic Beaver)"
ID=ubuntu
ID_LIKE=debian
PRETTY_NAME="Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS"
VERSION_ID="18.04"
I added part of the output in an attachment.

The dependency problem: first HARMONIC cannot be installed twice (to solve that I need to install and change the source package for tcdata) and second the gshhs-crude files cannot be installed twice (likewise).

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.511 Beta Test

Clean build and operation on Pi 4.

FWIW loading to exact same window/location/chart display in 511 took about 8 second, 428 was ~twice that (based on observation and logfile timestamps).

No problems so far.

Missing Tide Stations

The previous bug that caused a crash if trying to open a tide station that was not in the database has been fixed. Thanks to the developers.

But the tide stations missing for about one half of the world or more is still a bug. I have reported this on Flyspray as #2661.

Please vote for it if you agree.

Thanks, Terry

Limited Maximum Zoom

Not sure if this applies to all or just my computer.

The beta will only zoom out to 1:64.6MM whereas the stable version zooms out to 1:94.8MM.

Is it just me?

Thanks, Terry

Re: Missing Tide Stations

Terry, concerning the tide stations outside the US, I think there was a concern about some Hydrographic authority and their rights on the data. Personnaly I have build more than 4000 stations around the world and it was very difficult to have the data in certain countries. So it is a bit difficult to offer them at large. I understand why thy are not in anymore. Maybe, Dave can explain.
Bye.

Baikal...

Regarding:

"The help window floats somewhere in space! The window slides up the screen and cannot be closed! Correct? so that the borders of the window are on the borders of the screen."

Cannot duplicate in 5.1.511. Maybe a screenshot would help...

Thanks
Dave
