It can happen with just KAP charts or with just vector charts or with a quilted mix.
I also saw this behaviour when I first installed 4.6.0, it was happening all the time, so much in fact that using OpenCPN was difficult. I have just spent the last ten minutes trying to reproduce it and I can't. My laptop has been rebooted several times in the interim time and had a few Windows updates.

Windows 10 Pro, V 1607. OpenGL and Quilting enabled.

I agree, there is a problem with the wheel...

Maybe it only happens with smooth panning/zooming?

I find that sometimes it jumps as if it is not in smooth zooming mode even when it is.

Juehoe, you say you updated system? Have you cleared the opengl cache if you are using it, and rebuilt the entire database? You will continue to have trouble untol that is done.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.6.0 Released

I haven't had a chance to try the mouse wheel but I have noticed that 4.6.0 seems a bit slower with Ubuntu 14.04 although I have no routes or tracks on the screen. I usually notice it when I am trying to list AIS targets, so it may be a similar problem.

Another thing I noticed with 4.6.0 is the display is trashed briefly when the program is started. It lasts just about a second, too fast for a screenshot. Could the window be opened before it is initialized? I didn't see this behavior in any earlier versions.

Hi Dave,
just received the update to 4.6.1 from the Ubuntu ppa.
The issue seems resolved now.
Dragging feels very crisp now and it is dazzling, how all these subcharts are magically superimposed and stiched together. You are doing an amazing job, thank you very much!

On some of these OSM charts I noted that streets are painted in pure black, which is in strange contrast to neighbouring areas.
I assume however, that this is a problem of the OSM charts and not OCPN.

That wasn't the problem I noticed.
My case was with the Windows version.
Zooming in/out using the mouse wheel.
After a while, the mouse wheel won't zoom anymore.
When it gets into this state, the mouse wheel causes the screen to drift - at this stage something has failed.
You can recover the situation without exiting and restarting by selecting a different chart group (right click "chart groups").
But it will fail again later.

Hurricane..
I'm since long using Windows, "all" versions. The mouse wheel problem you've described I haven't experienced. I've used different kind of mouses, pad, normal mouse and roll mouse. Have you tried to use another mouse?

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.6.0 Released

Hi Folks,
I just installed the latest version 4.6.0 , but have problems with the AIS roll over, nothing pops up! I clicked the appropriate boxes in Settings.
When I roll my cursor over and AIS target, no box pops up.
I run it on a Panasonic CF-19 Toughbook with Windows 7 Professional, using a Microsoft Wireless Mouse 1000.
Any suggestions.
Kind regards
Robert

Get 4.6.1 which was updated a short while ago. This may be related to the color scheme. Use the "C" key to switch color schemes. Tell us if the rollover problem happens in all color schemes or not.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.6.0 Released

Hello-

Just downloaded v4.6.1 today. I am able to sometimes access the setup menu (Wrench icon), but often if I click the icon, the entire row of menu icons disappears and then OpenCPN enters a state where I can still move around and zoom in/out, etc., but cannot access anything from the toolbar (because the icons are gone) and most notably, cannot close the program down by clicking the red x. To shut it down I need to go to task manager and force the application to close .

I upgraded from 4.0. Running Win7.

I can revert to 4.0 if needed (have that installer file), but would prefer moving to v4.4 while 4.6 gets sorted out. Is there a location where I can download v 4.4?

Thanks- Matt

Matt,

Does pressing alt-tab a few times help you find the toolbar? It may have gone behind the chart screen but alt-tab may restore it.

What plugins do you have installed?
