Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 506

Not a crash, but some catch perhaps...

1)
As attached, a red area fairly consistently appears near 65 52.11N 12 14.70E. It is not there on a new install. It is not there with 2.3.1. It is not there (usually) on the first run of 2.4.506 after 2.3.1, but appears in the second run. Same for 2.4.423. With the saved set of files I could reproduce this a couple of times now.

It reminds me of a red horizontal streak across the screen, that I remember appearing (very rarely - so rarely I never reported this) since 1.3.6. It seemed to occur always near the same latitude, as in the picture.

PS. There is a difference - the red streak was there only at a single zoom level, the red area now is there at all zoom levels, except -5 Detail level.

2)
A quilting problem, occuring after some 10-20 minutes of simulated follow-the-boat steaming at 8 knots, then a single move with mouse... not reproducible.

3)
While exploring these waters, the performance becomes an issue.

I can sort of confirm pjotr's redlines .Mine seem to be a bit further south.Mine disappear in the pictured area as I zoom in.
so aren't a problem

something to do with the vectorchart tile borders?
I see 'em occassionally, in BC Canada, but Pjotr's are a stronger example than I can reproduce as I have an older version CM93

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 506

Concerning the S-57 Charts soundings, the U.S. one seems to work but the CHS shows no soundings with Build 506. I am including files to show.
What is wrong?

Hi Dave
The debug break is caused by a bad cell in cm93.

If you can, test your installation to see if this might be the cause: When you zoom out far enough on a vector chart the soundings disappear. On US5FL11M that happens when you zoom out from .78x (true scale 44900) to .39x (true scale 89800). If that chart is selected and zoomed out to the point that the soundings disappear turning on chart quilting will result in a display that shows a chart of a large area which is devoid of soundings in one area. If you select a different chart soundings will magically appear.

I have been using ECS for almost 20 years, I am not new at that.
I know about what you are taking about. But that is not the case.

Is it in any way associated with quilting?

No no the quilting is OK, even better than the other version, it is just that something was change in the last version that prevent soundings from being on. The little square is check! I the version 2.4.412, things were OK. One thing I have requested is the scaling of the ship by including a paragraph in the main program for allowing to enter Lenght, Breadth, and also the antenna location this does not seems to be interesting you fellows, but it is very important according to IMO people.

Do you have any Canadian vector charts that show soundings or are the soundings gone from all of them?

Have you tried unchecking the "Show Soundings" box in the "Vector Charts" tab of the toolbox, then selecting it again? I know that shouldn't have anything to do with it, but it's easy to try.

This was all done, without success. I have reverted to the 2.4.412 version and it is OK. I have all another program :- NavSim and I did check and no problem with the charts.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 506

There seems to have been a change in the logic regarding enabling chart quilting in build 506. In older versions, if I remember right, pressing F9 would toggle chart quilting and toggle the "Enable Chart Quilting" check box. In build 506 pressing F9 does not appear to do anything unless "Enable Chart Quilting" is already checked. Once that box is checked, pressing F9 toggles quilting off and on, but does not change the status of the check box. Changing the status of the check box does, however, toggle quilting on and off.

Has anyone else noticed the change? Was it intentional?

I tested again. I remember "soundings" everywhere. Maybe it's a mistake on my part.
I searched at random, if there were objects "Soundings" in the properties. I have not found in the area near the coast.

Maybe Sailor54 right.

Best regards

Gilletarom.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 506

All Windows users.....

We still have intermittent crashes on dragging cm93 in quilt mode.

We MUST have a drwatson log to analyze this problem.

I expressly request that all active Windows Beta testers activate drwatson crash dump recording, and learn how to capture a crash dump for this case.

Simple screen shots of the Windows crash dialog are not useful. We must have dumps.

Please see
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...tml#post677590

In these instructions, please skip Step 0, and simply use your existing 2.4.506 download.

This issue is a blocker for release of OCPN 2.5.

I hope we can get some enlightenment on this issue. I have been unable to reproduce on any system I have or can access.

Thanks
Dave
