I found some CM93 problems in the "Version 1.3.5 Build 1216", I cannot say in which build these problems were introduced, as I don't check these things very often.
Here are two versions of the first two lines in opencpn.conf

Quote:
[ChartDirectories]
ChartDir1=/opt/Navigation/CM93ed2-09^24780485230481

[ChartDirectories]
ChartDir1=/opt/Navigation/CM93ed2-09/CM93^
As you can see I have the following directory structure: /opt/Navigation/CM93ed2-09/CM93/all the individual chart directories

Normally I just point OpenCPN to the /opt/Navigation/CM93ed2-09
directory and everything is fine. Now however no charts can be found ( first entry above). If I point to /opt/Navigation/CM93ed2-09/CM93, things are back to normal and the charts are available again (second entry above).

Has there been a change in the way OpenCPN is searching for a CM93 database?

There is also this strange line in the log-file
Quote:
08:35:48 AM: Loading chart db version: ????ఀ??????¿????¿?Ĉ
This line is there whichever way I point to CM93.

Dave,

thanks for #64, transparency works here for significant wave heights. And it looks like the order of colors is now similar to other programs.

Very nice!

I am still going to bug you to include more Grib data. I really would like to see rain next (black / gray shading) to enhance fronts (see screenshot from viewfax)

Thanks!

Dirk

Just put whatever it says in the blue boxes into your terminal, if there are any problems get back to us. Best of luck Eric

@idpnd Hi, I tried but it gave me an error...
Also tried the patch for 9.10 [wxWidget something] but that also didn't work.
I also de-installed opencpn 1.3.4 [which doesn't work/start-up anymore] with the Ubuntu 9.10 Synaptic Packet Manager...
Then re-installed newly downloaded 1.3.4 but again it doesn't want to start.

I'm not very handy with computers and terminal... sorry.

Thanks for trying to help though.
Regards, Eric

It's really easy to learn! What was the error message?

Perform the tasks as defined, but start with

sudo apt-get install build-essential checkinstall libwxgtk2.8-dev cvs

Hello Dave,
First of all I want to thank you for your great work on behave of opencpn.
In the latest build 1216 I can't see any chart; the screen is pitch black (cm93 and .kap). The program is building the database but no chart is shown.
So far my bug. I will use build 1210.

I wish you a nice christmas and a happy newyear and of course a good holiday.

Display problem with Raster charts on XP machines.

Hi,
I've been having (and still have) problems with the display of Raster Charts on both my different XP machines(IBM Thinkpad T60 and Asus EEEPC S101). One with SP2 with small mods and one with XP3 clean. The problem is seen better if you use Black Frame color, as shown below. This problem has been intermittently around for several revisions now, but is not 100% consistent. Sometimes doesn't appear for a couple of days!
I use the NX2 sailing software to generate NMEA sentences to "Steer" the boat (discussed previously in Beta forum)
When the boat is in "follow mode" and the chart "inches" left or right the "trailing" side leaves a line down the side of the screen which then becomes part of the chart while "follow" mode is on.

1210 Database Problems....

All...

OK, there is a problem with cm93 and possibly other chart type data base updates and directory structure.

I will investigate. Meanwhile, as a workaround to continue testing 1216, please follow Cagney's results, namely:

Arrange your chart database entries so that the cm93 entry is exactly one level above the large directory containing chart cell files.

You do not need to move or copy the chart files themselves, simply select the directories with Toolbox->Charts to meet the above requirement.

Incidentally, you will find that the entire chart database scan and update cycle is fastest if you use specific entries in the Toolbox->Charts add-chart panel, rather than one large directory containing all your charts. The finer the granularity here, the faster the update.

I cannot reproduce any database problem with BSB or S57 ENC charts locally. If you are having a problem with this, please respond with a description of your chart directory structure. You may want to try "Force Full Update" in the Toolbox->Charts panel and report the results.

For those interested, the root cause of these database problems involves an effort to optimize the time spent scanning directories for chart changes and updates, and avoiding a complete database rebuild whenever possible.

I'll have more on this when I get some test reports.

Thanks
Dave

The NX2 software I refer to is explained in the following post URL:

Looking at the source code, the following line "looks" a bit suspicious:

file: chart1.cpp

void MyFrame::OnSize(wxSizeEvent& event)
..
..
Line : 2708 cccw += 2; // account for simple border

Some isobars are missing on the grib displays. The isobar values are shown, but not the lines.

There is a large memory leak when grib data is displayed.
