Of course it does. I've been using it on wayland for over a year now. But for that you will need to install the gnome
desktop as the official Raspi OS
desktop does not support wayland.

Although in the explanation of the link they indicate you to change to xorg the truth is that I use preferably wayland. However there are tools that when requesting superuser access in graphic mode do not
work under wayland -like gdebi- since they use a different method, wayland uses pkexec instead of the old gksu. Apart from that I have not seen any detectable errors and yes a smoother operation.
