OpenCPN to i70s

All,

I hope that I can draw on some of the outstanding technical knowledge that is held in this forum.

I've been a long time user and fan of OpenCPN having sailed all over the north atlantic with it. Recently I have upgraded both the boat and the instuments on it and am struggling getting data from OpenCPN to display on the instruments.

From the laptop I am using an Actisense to get into the STNG network and am then using a STNG to ST adaptor to get to the autopilot. I am pushing everything out from OpenCPN (that I can), but only seem to be transmitting EXRMB, etc and not RMB, RNC. On the autopilot (which is on ST) I see BTW, DTW, TTG etc but on the i70s's I only see BTW.

Any help or pointers would be greatfully appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Iain

As an FYI I have attached the configuration and a set of nmea logs.

Re: OpenCPN to i70s

A few things to check.

You might need to tweak the source prefix on your sentences xxRMB etc. You can do this with NMEA converter plugin.

Both the Actisense and the ST to STng converter are potential bottlenecks in terms of what N2k PGNs that they pass. I usually check the specs and make up a matrix on a spreadsheet showing the PGNs on each variety of network.

I dont have much time at the moment (new baby) but if I do I'll have a look and see if I can be more specific.

If the pilot has nmea 183 in (many do). I wound go direct from pc to nmea 183. Instead of through 2 converters.

Thats is good advice. OP; What pilot do you have (not the control head but the grey box)?

If you have the right pilot computer feed NMEA 0183 to the pilot and that will convert to ST and hence STng, all in a dialect that Ray should speak.

You may still have to tweak sentence prefixes in the NMEA converter plugin.
