Re: OpenCPN Release Candidate Version 3.1.1405 Released

"Since the route manager upload already has a dialog box involved, and allows you to select the COM port you wish to upload to, why not also include an option on that dialog box to select the upload format? It could default to the setting in the connection setup. The right click option could be left as is using the default setting. "
I think this is a great idea, and we will implement it on the next OCPN Beta series (3.3.x) version which will start up after the 3.2 Release (very soon now).
Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Release Candidate Version 3.1.1405 Released
Hello,
The tests I have done with the V 03.01.1405 on the button "Export All That is visible ..." and on the "Delete" button in the "Layers" tab shows that the progress bar is working properly. Of course, but we knew that already, with large numbers of objects, the time can be extremely long. But at least the user is warned.
That said, it is impossible to stop the export if the user believes that the wait is too long. It is imperative that Thomas Cagney explains that in the aid of OpenCPN.

This may be an unnecessary report since Garmin is well known but anyhow...
Upload of routes and WP to Garmin 12 using WinXP is OK. One example below:
10:34:26: Closing NMEA Datastream Serial:COM5
10:34:26: Stopping Secondary Thread
10:34:27: Stopped in 1 sec.
10:34:29: Sent waypoint(s) to Garmin GPS on port: Serial:COM5
Unit identifies as: GPS 12 SOFTWARE 4.60
10:34:29: Opening NMEA Datastream Serial:COM5

Re: OpenCPN Release Candidate Version 3.1.1405 Released
Hello Dave,
A strange phenomenon with 3.1.1405. (ASUS W XP SP3)
I OpenCPN closed after use. I deleted all the files in the initialization folder. So I deleted the ini file, the log file. I also deleted all files navobj.xml. I also emptied the folder SENC and I also emptied the folder CM93.
Then I started CCleaner. After that, I started OpenCPN.
And surprise, OpenCPN remember the path CM93 folder in my machine.
This is not normal.

About strange phenomenon. I made a new test.
After using O, I closed O,
I completely emptied the initialization folder OpenCPN
I clean PC with CCleaner, I chutdown the PC.
Then I run O
And then O use immediately the CM93 charts with the good path ! Strange.

Could we see you logfile for when cm93 seems to be automatically found after cleaning?
Thanks

here my last log file. Older log file are destroyed by Ccleaner when I try to clean the PC.
But there is some tests from 16h 17 mn 57s to 17h 33mn 44S.
Note especially at 16:18:11: Récupération du dossier, contenant les cartes, initialement défini dans le registre Windows
that said :
4:18:11 p.m.: Retrieving the file containing the maps, initially defined in the Windows registry.

Re: OpenCPN Release Candidate Version 3.1.1405 Released
I can't get to see my own boat in the AIS Target List.
I dont know if its a change in the software or some problem.
I see everyone else but not me.
As it stands I can not tell if I am transmitting my AIS. This would be very perplexing at sea.
ideas?
Mark

Re: OpenCPN Release Candidate Version 3.1.1405 Released
Markj...
The presence of Ownship in the AIS target list previously was an error. That error was fixed in the present Beta.
Ownship information comes from AIS message AIVDO, while valid targets are signaled by AIVDM.
The presence of AIVDO (ownship) information in the data stream is no indication that the transponder is actually transmitting. It indicates only that the transponder is turned on and receiving GPS signals. AFAIK, there is no way to monitor the output of a transponder except with a separate AIS receiver.
Thanks
Dave

Dave...
Yes, of course you are right. Even though I my self earlier was saying a not so clever opposite meaning. The only thing the AICDO message says about the own ship statics is what's in the AIS data base. When the AIS is transmitting the inbound receiver is by natural closed off. The only way to check own transmitting is, at least in my case, the led light on the device telling the attempt to transmit. A proper check of transmitting success is to ask another boat for signal receiving or if close to shore visit marinetraffic.com.
So the only advantage of viewing own boat AIS data in OCPN is to have a instant check of the data that's meant to be transmitted. But I agree that is of minor importance compared to possible disturbances.
Thanks /Håkan

Dave, thats not correct.
When OpenCpn is first turned on Own Boat comes up in AIS Target List as Unknown (Like a yellow flag) but when the full data package is received it has the Own Boat name (like Green Flag)
Its pretty well vital information as its the only way to determine if the AIS is transmitting.
Its really important to have that information, and I would really appreciate the information being put back on.
Also I change my boat name, depending on the circumstances, to include "Solo Sailor" to help with safety (at night, etc). I cant tell if the name change is being transmitted without OpenCpn. The software for the AIS doesnt confirm the transmition properly like OpenCpn was doing.
It was a very useful detail on OpenCpn and I used it every time I turn the computer on... To give an idea of that, below is a screenshot of a day at sea and the tracks show when I have the computer on. given I check AIS each time its on, thats about 24 times per day I will be missing vital information.
