Opencpn not receiving nmea sentances

Hi all,

I am trying to setup wind instruments for Opencpn on and Android tablet.

I have a Davis wind vane connected to Sean's weather sensor receiver and connected to a Huawei tablet via a USB OTG cable.

I can seethe nmea sentences being received by the tablet in a serial USB terminal app.

In opencpn connections there is a droop down to select for the serial port but in the nmea debug window no sentences are coming in other that what I think are the GPS?

Does anyone have any ideas of what to try next? Have been through what feels like all different settings with no luck. Only thing I can think of is that thst the serial port address in the drop down is incorrect? Is that likely, I'm unsure how to check it?

Are you sure the USBDP is using baud rate 38400? Without checking the gadget try 4800 or 9600. If that also fails see if you can interface it and study the settings.


BTW: You've manually set nearly all kinds of NMEA messages to receive. That's fine but you may not need to explicitly set all. It may be more convenient to don't set any exceptions. Open the three dotted button and "Clear all" -> OK. If the row is empty all will be handled.

I believe 38400 is correct as that is the rate that the terminal receives at. Any other rate in the terminal causes the sentences to be unreadable. I have also tried all rate settings in the connection to no avail.

Also have tried all and no exceptions. Will remove them all now, thanks.

It's not straight forward to use a OTG-USB-serial adapter. I've made a few tests and when the OTG is "locked" to OCPN it's working fine connected to a wind meter. I think I also got a question at the very first OTG connection to allow it to start OCPN. So your issue may be the Android rights for the OTG-USB device? There are also different handling of different OTG for different Androids. I've A version 8.
BTW: I think you can have it connected to one and only one app at the time. Make sure your terminal app is not occupying the adapter? Restart to be sure?
