opencpn.ini file

I'm trying to change the default drop down marker and am trying to change the opencpn.ini file. I change the line:

DefaultWPIcon=triangle

to

DefaultWPIcon=Active WP

but everytime I run opencpn it overwrites the ini file and gives me the original

Re: opencpn.ini file

Under Windows (btw. which version?) the ini, log file and the route/track/marker information in xml format resides at ...\ProgramData\opencpn

You will find the actual location for your install using the help button from the tool bar (the "?")

Re: opencpn.ini file

rslotpole,

The opencpn.ini file in a Windows computer is usually located:
Code:
C:\ProgramData\opencpn\opencpn.ini
By default, Windows hides the "C:\ProgramData\" folder. I think you have found the location of "opencpn.ini" on your computer. If not, the using the help (?) button on the toolbar as suggested by bcn will help you find it.

Your (edited) message indicates that OpenCPN changes the
Code:
DefaultWPIcon=Triangle
setting back to the original setting. This would be the case if OpenCPN is running when you edit the opencpn.ini file. OpenCPN reads opencpn.ini into memory when it is started, and it writes it from memory as it shuts down. So, OpenCPN must not be running when you edit and save opencpn.ini.

Thanks for your help. I've been able to set the default marker to WP but I'm trying to set it to Active WP and that doesn't seem to work. Any ideas?

Instead of dropping a mark, position the arrow where you want your Active WP and right-click. Select "Navigate to Here" from the (context sensitive) drop down menu.

Re: opencpn.ini file

Looks like there is a problem due to the space in the naming. All default WP markers icons are hardcoded in the program.
You could add a user icon (see manual) and choose this as the default WP icon.
