Re: Opencpn in UBUNTU (12.04 64bit) will not Unpack

Walter
OK let's skip that, stage for now.
The package you would get in the end would be this
https://launchpad.net/~opencpn/+arch...cise1_i386.deb

Download, click on the file, and follow the instructions on screen.
Probably this will start the Ubuntu software center.
You may get a warning regarding the quality of the package.
That can safely be ignored. It's just nitpicking about the lack of "proper" address for the maintainer.

Any ideas? Should I delete the download file and start over again?

Code:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/nohal/opencpn/ubuntu precise main
This line is slightly incorrect it should be:
Code:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/opencpn/opencpn/ubuntu precise main
I believe the "nohal"
directory is the original that was shipped with the ubuntu distribution.

What you are trying to do is give a location for OPENCPN to find a group of libraries. The libraries in the "nohal" directory have the same names but are different.

Thomas: That did the trick! OpenCPN installed and working. Thanks a lot, both to you and Don! I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out!
Tomorrow I'll install the maps and try to make the GPS work. Will let you know how it worked out,
Don't forget: If you ever come north, send me a PM and I'll show you around.

Well, there's north and then there's Norway. I stay in the warm areas (Not so easy this year).

Don.
PS You come south and you're welcome any time.

I wouldn't mind a day in August, just to see the place, but it's too far north for me.
