"Harding" it's hard () to help you, as you provide very little information. Giving it a stab in the dark, there is a chance that your opencpn.ini file is corrupt, and that this file is the same after re-installation. Try to delete this file and restart. What happens? Still problem? Please publish your log file opencpn.log. Instructions for finding these files are here.

Hi Thomas, pls inform me about how to find and delete the opencpn.ini file?
The opencpn.log file is very long, what part of it do you want, or have you an e-mail where I can attach it to.

Kindly refer to the manual as linked by Thomas above:

Quote:
On Windows 2000, XP and Vista and Windows 7 the two files, opencpn.log and opencpn.ini are in a location governed by the environmental variable %APPDATA%.
From any command prompt enter: explorer %APPDATA%\opencpn. Windows Explorer will start with the correct folder open.

Hi Thomas,

Re %APPDATA%\opencpn, a complete delete of contens and new installation of the program.
Now its working OK.
Thanks for your help.

Is there a upper limit for amount of cards? I had more than 37 Gb and wanted to update for more vectorcards in the file, when the program crashed.

Here in Scandinavian the local Nooah´s distribute cards in a .it format only. Its possible with a program called VisiIT plus 5.1 to change to JPEG and after a calibration place them as a overlay in Google Earth.
In US cards are free to download but here it costs and only on CD´s , and the format can only be used in their own programs with discomfort.
Is it possible to make programdetails so .it can be incorporated in OpenCPN or is i possible to make a conversion to BSB for update in Open CPN?

You can convert jpegs to BSBs by calibrating them, although its still a bit tricky.

Find instructions for linux here, and there's also quite a bit of info on this forum. You will have to use the Seaclear Mapcal programme.

There's also a windows calibration frontend made by netsurfer you may wish to try, it will probably make the process much easier.

Harding,
Can you offer some more details about the charts and the .it format.
Is it the same format for Denmarks and Swedens version of "Det levande sjökortet" ?
Is it used in other countries?

Were can you get the software "VisiIT plus 5.1" ?
Is it included if you buy the charts?

/J

Hi Jonas,

You can find it from thise KMS file:
ftp://ftp2.kms.dk/KMS-MAR/VisIT Plus/
ftp://ftp2.kms.dk/download/soekortre...load/T-Kartor/
VisIt is expensive, and not incl. the "Det Levende Søkort".
DLS is the standard for both Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Germany.
The main advance with those cards is that they are in high resolutions down to more than 1: 12.500 and update every year.
The only feature is that it is possible to create themes both by yourself and from the Sailing Union such as unknown shootingfields, not shown in the official map, the dangerous zone will be shown on map.

Thanks, I will take a look at windows calibration frontend but I hoped that a programmer more easy could make a conversion from .it to BSB for OpenCPN more direct.
My hope was the possibility to have those .it card with high resolution accessable for normal navigation programs.

Hello Harding.
Are you referring to the charts provided by Kystverket?
These are of course only of Norwegian waters.

If you can display them on a PC,they can be copied and calibrated to run as .kap charts in OpenCPN.

Even better if the charts can be displayed on a scrollable screen in their full size.
You can then use a program like 'Snagit 9' to scroll copy in both direction.

The offically only appriced disributor of digital charts are Primar. But for leisure ships also the raster charts are approved. T-kartor only buy mapdata now form the swedish authority. If i understand sjöfartsverket right. If i understand right Primar only sels the info in encrypted S57 format.

In Denmark the rawdata comes from Farvandsvæsenet (FRV) as a part of the danish defence under the defenceministry.
FRV´s data goes to Kort & Matrikelstyrelsen (KMS) and they make the papercards and sell the rastercarddata through Danisn Sailingorganisation (DS) to T-kartor.
Similar for the other scandinavian countries.
T-kartor make Det levende søkort (DLS) to be sold to pleasure sailors.
Primar is the organisation for the proff. side (S-57 ...).

I can agree that Primar aint priced for any but the pro. Sjöfartsverket in sweden thou say they no longer have anything with the mapmaking by t-kartors (DLS) to do on there homepage. DLS is still the worst plotter program i have seen thou.

Dacust has put together a list of freely available charts at Inland Waters Resources
