Re: OpenCpn Draw plugin disappears after install on Android

chris...
OCPN on electric boats sounds like a fun idea...
We are making real progress towards using ocpn_draw on Android. And the good news is that, so far, there seems to be no need for a new OCPN base version. That is, all the changes will happen in the plugin. That will make life easier for users and testers alike.

So, stay tuned for news as the work progresses.

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCpn Draw plugin disappears after install on Android

chris, et al...

We now have a "Pre-alpha" version of ocpn_draw for Android.
You may download and import from:
https://dl.cloudsmith.io/public/open...d-armhf.tar.gz

Notes: 1. To enable the "Import" option for Android, you must manually add to config file, and restart:
[PlugIns]
CatalogExpert=1
2. Many of the ocpn_draw settings dialogs are difficult to navigate on a small device like a mobile phone, much better on a tablet.

3. You may like to create ocpn_draw objects on a standard PC, and export the GPX files to your Android device. This will avoid having to fiddle with the settings dialogs on the Android device.

4. Please keep in mind that this is a very early implementation test, meant to verify basic compatibility. Lots of GUI polish will be required before a Production release is possible.

5. This Pre-alpha plugin has been built and tested only on 32Bit Android devices.

Good Luck

Re: OpenCpn Draw plugin disappears after install on Android

Hi guys, thanks very much indeed for all the hard work on this. Big step forward!

After adding the line to the config file I was then able to import and install the plugin, which I hadn't been able to do before. I'm getting the two OCPN-Draw icons on the toolbar.

I already created the draw data on my Mac and just need to import and display it on the tablet so clunky dialogs are not a big problem for now.

I clicked on the top "Draw" button and got the dialog with the "import" button bottom left. Unfortunately that's where I got stuck - the folders I can access using that "file open" dialog to import a gpx file do not appear to correspond to any folder I can actually put the gpx file into!

I have searched all over the internal storage of the tablet and pasted the gpx file in various places but the file open dialog can't seem to access any of them.

My filesystem is at storage/emulated/0 but the file open dialog seems to only be able to see some internal folders of the opencpn app and I can't seem to find or access those to copy a gpx file into them (I hunted around using Total Commander, which is a great app, but no luck).

storage/emulated/0/Downloads would be a good default place to look.

Please let me know if you know how to get the gpx file to show up in that dialog or if you need me to test anything else, I'm stuck for now!

Cheers,
Chris

Re: OpenCpn Draw plugin disappears after install on Android

Chris...
Thanks for the feedback.
Please download and import this new version of ocpn-draw_pi:
https://dl.cloudsmith.io/public/open...d-armhf.tar.gz

This is Version 1.8.5.4. It contains a platform-aware file selector dialog, which should allow you to get to your importable GPX files on Android.

Thanks, and Good Luck

Re: OpenCpn Draw plugin disappears after install on Android

Hi Dave and Jon... Thanks for the quick work on that... Another step closer!

I imported the GPX file successfully but I get random shapes drawn generally in the right area or within a few miles of where they should be, with interesting graduated red to black or green to yellow shading and some of them flashing on and off to plain black!

It was rather a complicated GPX file generated on an earlier version of opencpn. I'm not 100% sure if this issue was with the GPX export the GPX import or even whether it is specific to Android or not.

Let me know if you need me to send the GPX file and where to send it.

Thanks!

Chris

Re: OpenCpn Draw plugin disappears after install on Android

PS. I'm using small tile BDB/KAP charts generated from satellite photos by venturefarther.com

Sometimes one entire tile is overlaid with a plain RGB colour like 100% green by opencpn_draw, sometimes chart tiles are drawn over the top of what opencpn_draw is drawing. Generally there's a block of solid colour where one chart tile should be and a triangle leading off to a point a few miles away (no point in my draw data is actually that far away). the triangle is often shaded through to a different colour.

I can't upload it here because it's more than the 400KB attachment limit of the forum. Please PM me your email address and I'll send it over.

Re: OpenCpn Draw plugin disappears after install on Android

Have you tried exporting the file then importing it as a temporary layer on the plane platform that you generated all the boundaries? This error looks like it is missing something in the box file.

Can you upload the file to Dropbox (free cloud storage) and post the link to it or zip the file, you may need to rename it to have a txt or doc 'extra' extension and then upload this, then more of us can investigate.

Re: OpenCpn Draw plugin disappears after install on Android

In case it is relevant the GPX came from OpenCPN 4.6.1 on MacOS running OCPNDraw 1.4

Re: OpenCpn Draw plugin disappears after install on Android

I have just tried it on ubuntu with OCPN 5.2.4 and ODraw 1.8.5.2 to check if the general import worked and it appears to (there were no 'strange' boundaries). This suggests that there may be a rendering issue with the new android code.

Re: OpenCpn Draw plugin disappears after install on Android

Chris...
I imported your GPX file to my test Android device, and the exclusion areas and points are rendered reasonably, though I have not examined them closely. They look at first glance identical to the same file imported to a standard PC version of ocpn-draw.

It is possible that the ocpn-draw methods are somehow conflicting with the rendering of the KAP charts you are using. Please try to remove all your KAP charts in this region (temporarily), and just show the GSHHS backing chart. Maybe that will make a difference.
Also, what tablet are you using for test?

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCpn Draw plugin disappears after install on Android

I tried removing all charts, still not working. Now nothing renders from ocpn-draw at all, except occasionally a large plain black area.

The tablet is a waterproof mediatek based ten inch, I think the chipset is very standard used in huge numbers of cheap android tablets. The Android install is pretty standard, clean Google distribution without too much bloat added.
