OpenCPN data restoration

In the past I have renamed or replaced the navobj.xml file with a backed up copy , and restored all the tracks and marks to the system.

I am now trying to recover the data on a new device installation (windows), and cant get the system to recover the old tracks and waypoints for the navobj file. On each shutdowm it also writes a new file, which is a few Kb instead of Mb.

What am I doing wrong, or forgetting.
Have tried using 5.6 and 5.12

Re: OpenCPN data restoration

Data for tracks, routes, marks and layers are now handled by a data base instead.
To save a backup you will need to copy "navobj.db" instead of the .xml files. That file can be copied to any future OCPN. The file is located in the same directory as the old .xml files.
If you for any extern reason need the .xml format you can make xml format by the "Export" function in Route & Marks manager.

Re: OpenCPN data restoration

Thanks for that info. Will remember to back both of them up in the future.
The Navobj file I was trying to restore was created and backed up from version 5.4, and I was trying to reinstall it initially in 5.6, then later in 5.12
Couldn't get either to work, so thought I may have forgotten some detail

Re: OpenCPN data restoration

Unless you haven't added new routes, tracks or marks to the new data base you can close OCPN, delete the "navobj.db" file and copy your old "navobj.xml" to the same directory.
Then the data in "navobj.xml" will be converted to the new data base "navobj.db" when starting OCPN next time.
